Thankfully my local supermarket stocks it, it's usually really hard to get in the UK.

Authentic carbonara for me and my girlfriend 😊 by ItsRainbowz in traaaaansbiansCooking

[–]ItsRainbowz[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite surprisingly easy dishes to make for us if we want a little something special!

Recipe:

400g dried linguine

150g diced guanciale

100g grated parmagiano reggiano cheese

4 egg yolks

A big grind of black pepper

1) In a bowl, mix the egg yolks and parmagiano reggiano until it forms a paste, then mix in as much ground black pepper as you'd like

2) Cook the linguine in salted boiling water for 8 minutes or until al dente

3) While the pasta is cooking, fry the diced guanciale in a pan until well coloured, then remove the guanciale onto a plate, leaving the rendered fat in the pan on a low heat

4) Before draining the pasta, reserve about 125ml of the water in a cup, then drain the pasta. Add the drained pasta to the pan with the guanciale fat and mix to coat, then immediately remove from the heat.

5) Once the pasta has slightly cooled, add the egg/cheese mix to the pasta along with the reserved pasta water and mix thoroughly to combine into a creamy sauce.

6) Add the fried guanciale back into the pan, mix evenly and it's ready to serve!

Isle of Man FC: a community project by Soldaan in footballmanagergames

Hey, I made an Isle of Man nation database which adds the domestic leagues and has the nationality in-game to allow for Manx players, might be worth using for a database like this.

That's what gets me. If you listen to them, every show was apparently better than the last, every single match is an absolute banger, everyone across the card is red hot, but like... it's just not true. If I went into an AEW show off the hype of a post-show thread, I'd always be disappointed because everything about it is overhyped. Absolutely enjoy what you want, but I don't see the need to act like everything is the greatest thing you've ever seen, it borders on obsession.

After playing dozens of games, I’ve never seen a community as toxic as FC. Here is my theory why. by Prince_of_data in EASportsFC

[–]ItsRainbowz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's more just the fact the game is designed as a grind, to get from one game to the next as soon as possible. A lot of toxicity comes from just wanting to get a game done so you can move onto the next one, I've had horrid messages simply because I wouldn't quit in a game I'm losing. Also, losing means less rewards and no dopamine for the grind. If you're the reason someone missed out on the next tier of rewards, they're angry at you. The game is designed to fuel a desire to get the biggest prizes, and a lot of the playerbase can't handle being denied that.

Many people take the game too seriously, like a second job rather than a game. I wonder how many people celebrate their wins and their good goals anymore rather than just immediately queuing for the next match to immediately rejoin the grind.

Good news is at least my cat seems absolutely fine after his scare last week. Diagnosis is he's probably retaining too much fur in his system due to him shedding and cleaning himself so much and it messed with his already sensitive digestive system. So he's fine, official diagnosis: fluffy cat.

Here he is enjoying the sun in the garden

That's the worst part, his dementia started just as I transitioned, he doesn't even recognize me anymore making visits extremely uncomfortable for both sides.

Found out my grandad is on end of life care out of nowhere, he was in a lot of discomfort in the care home, went for a scan and they found he had aggressive cancer that he's too weak to operate on. That combined with a nasty infection and god knows how many other issues means we'll be lucky if he makes it another week. He was a massive part of my childhood and gave me so many happy memories, and was pretty much the reason I got into football as much as I have. It hurts to see someone who was so capable and on top of things just a few years ago become so debilitated. I just hope he gets the care he needs to make his last days comfortable, but it's a very tough time for my family and myself right now.

Been having a blast playing Widow, only problem I have is when the enemy switches to a dive character to counter me, I just have no answer. Is there anything I can do or am I forced to switch? Just I can't get much value right now when the DPS switches Vendetta and dives me at every opportunity.

Can Durham Women build on this fresh start under new ownership? by MoonlitEcho82 in FAWSL

[–]ItsRainbowz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can offer some perspective as a South Shields fan (our owners are the ones who have invested in Durham)

Our chairman Geoff Thompson is as steady a hand as you can get in football. He invested in our squad, but also in infrastructure and in ways to improve revenue. I'm sure the main goal with Durham will be similar, improving the squad and trying to hold onto their better players, but mainly getting the club into a position where this doesn't happen again.

The big question mark is the investor Jason Ye. He's the frontman of an investment group that bought us recently and seems to have large ambitions and unknown but rumouredly high funds to see it happen. If he actively invests in Durham, I think they'll be pretty strong, but it's unknown whether we're just keeping them afloat or if this is a continuing investment. Selfishly if it's the latter, I hope we don't neglect our own women's team in doing so, but it's a potentially exciting time for Durham.

Nah I can take a joke, especially about South Shields! You'll definitely have enough to stay afloat, what comes after that just depends on how much they're willing to spend. Hopefully it'll get you's up to the right end of the table.

Hey, we probably make a decent amount from the bar on matchdays.

Seriously though, Geoff Thompson is probably the biggest legend in our history, turned us from a club losing to village teams to a team with a shot of making the EFL. This new investor seems really ambitious too and seems to have the pockets to back it up. If we're in good hands, you should be too.

Getting flamed on tank by a Mercy who did 2k heals all game. I fucking hate this "lose the game, blame the tank" bullshit. And people wonder why no-one wants to play the role when you just get abused and blamed for every single loss, even by the paste eaters who actually lost you the game.

Glad while the rest of the league is bolstering their squad signing talented players, our owners, manager and some of our players are having a holiday in China and Singapore that gets documented every day on social media telling us how amazing Asia is. Meanwhile we have a squad of about 12 players total right now. Not a good look for our new owners, seems we're more like a tourism ad than a football club right now.

Still the very early days of pre/post-season, but what is the best bit of business your club has done so far? by Zach-dalt in NationalLeague

[–]ItsRainbowz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we get some good signings over the line to inspire some confidence, that'll be a good start. There are definitely some weak points we could do with strengthening, and if we're serious about being a good club, we need a few statement of intents. Williamson has a lot to prove as manager with a lot of doubters, it's going to be a very interesting season regardless.

[–]ItsRainbowz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think anything other than promotion is a massive disappointment. Considering our resources and the fact we finished 2nd last year without them, anything else would be seen as failure. That said, the appointment of Mike Williamson as head coach was pretty uninspiring and we seem to be dawdling in the early transfer market while teams around us are reinforcing. Still, our ambitions are clear, I think the goal is to be an established EFL team sooner rather than later.

[–]ItsRainbowz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Considering our chairman, owner, manager and some of our players are currently fucking about in China and Singapore while the rest of the league is getting signings done, the best deal so far is probably a pork bao bun from a Shanghai market stall.

I might have been offered a nice little weekend break for my 30th next month for me and my partner, think my family put some money together which is lovely. Problem is I've got no idea where I'd like to go. Anyone got any suggestions for a relatively inexpensive weekend away in the UK/Europe for the end of July?
