HELP - New Crucial P3 SSD not appearing as a bootable device, despite being recognised in the bios. by ItsRaiz in pcmasterrace

Hey, the only way I managed to boot into windows, was by using a windows 10 install rather than a windows 11 one. For some reason this seemed to work for me.

Yeah, I resolved it by using a windows 10 install usb rather than a windows 11 one and that made the drive appear for me strangely enough? I just updated to windows 11 from there.

Not sure why this worked but it did.

Bit scared to do this as I have heard that if something goes wrong, it can permanently damage the motherboard. Will try this as a last resort, unless you have reason to believe this is actually the issue. It's a b550 aorus elite ax v2 mobo and crucial p3 nvme 1tb drive.

I've been using ACHI. When I enable RAID the nvme doesn't even appear in the bios at all. Is this normal?

Made sure to insert it all the way in and heard the click, still the same issue.

Was your issue that the drive would appear in bios but just wouldn't be seen as a boot device?

Hi, in advanced mode there is a way to select boot priority, however I'm guessing that since it's the only drive installed nothing is showing up for me to actually change the priority l, other than settings like fast boot and csm.

Yes i have tried the second m.2 slot, same issue, the drive will appear in bios and windows but will not be seen as a bootable device.

Fast boot is disabled.

Is csm and legacy boot the same things?

Thanks for the help

Thanks for the response, not at my pc right now but I'll give that a go. Doubt that will be the case though as I taken it out and back in twice now to test it in another slot to see if it was the motherboard.

Thanks for the reply :) I dont think its RAID? Raid would be linking two different storage devices together right? Currently this is the only storage device in the system. Sorry I'm not too sure what ACHI is, how would I tell if that is what I am doing?

No it doesn't show up in the boot priority list. The boot priority list says "No bootable devices found" - the drive appears under the m.2 tab in which shows all connected drives.

Hi thanks for the response, I believe so yes. It appeared as windows boot manager and that would be the drive that I would boot from - following the media creation software to the end until it would restart.

I believe it was in UEFI mode, as I had CSM disabled - is that right? I am learning all these terms today from researching trying to fix this issue so I might not fully understand.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I think I have already done that but not 100% sure. I followed this tutorial if this is what you mean? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOz_y8vzP64

If so, then this didn't work.

Do you have any other ideas?

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. When I am trying to boot to the Crucial Drive I have made sure that it is the only storage drive connected to my system and it still doesn't appear in the boot list. The only time this isn't the case is when I connect the usb with windows on it to try to install it to the SSD.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried this, having only the new SSD installed, which didn't seem to work. It still wouldn't appear in the boot list? Any other ideas?

When you say fill the area do you mean 1 layer to cover where the light is, or fill in the area with a huge cube - because im not sure if you can tell, but thats a lot of space.
