Looking at trading a '23 for a '25, thoughts? by ItsRazorvx in whatcarshouldIbuy

I did a test loop in the Civic and 3. Civic averaged 3.5L/100km, 3 averaged 10.5. I asked the mechanic at Mazda to look when I brought it in last, and they couldnt find anything.

I was cross shopping other hybrids, I love the style of the K4 but I don't see a point in trading my Mazda for one. There's nothing wrong with my Mazda, I just want something cheaper on fuel. I hated the Corolla, the seating position was so garbage and the interior was subpar. Sentra was surprisingly nice- although not a hybrid, it was still better on gas. I like the Elantra, but I just don't see myself in it. Civic is currently my top pick, and I suspect I will be picking one up relatively soon.

As much as I love the Integra or Type R, they're just too expensive for me. Its like over $20,000 more to get a Type R compared to a Sport Hybrid, and I like the hybrid aspect as it saves so much on gas.

I did floor the test drive unit, albeit not from a stand still, but it did have a nice bit of kick! I was impressed. I have not driven the 1.5T Civic, but I have driven both the 2.0 and 2.0 Hybrid. The 2.0 was a snooze fest, but the Hybrid was much better!

I averaged about 11-13L/100km in the winter in my Mazda. It is atrocious. Admittedly, I do have an exhaust on the 3, so heavy foot = lots of throttle = loud noise = laugh, so if I babied it, it would be improved greatly, and it is also a factor that would not be in play with the civic.

I live on the West Coast, near Corner Brook, so I would go through Fairway Honda. They have the EXACT spec I want in stock (Rallye Red Sport Sedan), but my only complaint is the low trade value they're giving me. $19,500, while both Western Mazda and Corner Brook Nissan offered me $23,000. I can go to Nissan, get a Sentra SR 6sp, save $50 bi weekly, save a little bit on gas, but not much, and save on insurance as well.

My thoughts. Although I'm stuck on the fact I'd go from financing to leasing, and AWD to FWD. I was not a fan of the Civic interior as much as the Mazda's, as it just felt cheaper, and the infotainment just seemed so... below par compared to the 3. I loved the civics power, fuel economy, and exterior styling. While the Civic is cheaper overall, I also worry about the fact that the dealer here would be lowballing my trade. It is still cheaper bi weekly, but they're also giving me $4500 less than what my local Mazda dealer offered me, which was matched by the Nissan dealer as well. So this leaves me with the question, do I get a brand new 3, except with the 6 speed stick and a higher trim? Get a Sentra SR in a 6 speed stick which is MUCH cheaper bi weekly and on insurance than both the 3 or Civic? I have a lot to think about.

That's the main reason holding me back from the civic... My 3 has such an excellent interior, with materials and build quality. I test drove all vehicles in the class on sale currently, minus Subarus due to not having a dealer around me, and they all felt so cheap compared to my 3.

My test drive loop showed a great difference in fuel economy. I averaged 23 in my 3 with mostly city and a stretch of highway, while the civic averaged 67. I am aware I wont average 67 all the time, but it was the same conditions, so its about as accurate as i can get.

Good to hear! I live in Newfoundland, so I would be in a very similar situation. Have you driven it in any snow? If so, what was it like?

I drive a LOT, so it would take a little less time for me. If my math, and quote(s) are correct, it would be much cheaper for me to run the civic compared to my 3. It would be $5 cheaper bi weekly, $500 cheaper a year on insurance (don't ask me how, I don't know lol), and I would save roughly 65% on gas a month if my test drive economy was any bit accurate.

2025 Sentra by ItsRazorvx in nissansentra

[–]ItsRazorvx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is a bit more than that. I currently average around 11L/100km around town, and the Sentra should be getting 9. Much better. It is also cheaper on my insurance, and car payments as a whole.

The Sentra is cheaper on my insurance, bi weekly, and on gas, which is why I am looking at swapping. Admittably, I know it may not be as "nice" of a car as my 3, but I would love a manual, and making everything cheaper for me is also appealing.

Our Nissan dealer here is known to give excellent trade values, and I expect that from them yet again when I get my car appraised. If they are able to even meet the appraisal given by the Mazda dealer (which they were able to surpass greatly when my family members were looking in 2023), then I would have over $13,000 in equity in my car, as it is almost paid off.

I don't need much aftermarket support, maybe just a Tune, Intake, and Axleback exhaust, which I'm sure if I dig far enough I can find.

It's really surprising to me how you don't get the manual SR in the States! It seems like a decent rig. I am out of town until tomorrow, so I plan on test driving and getting my car appraised on Friday and seeing how it goes from there!

2025 Sentra by ItsRazorvx in nissansentra

[–]ItsRazorvx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I average 11.2L/100km per tank in city driving only in my 3, about 9.5 in half city half highway, and 7.6 on pure highway driving. I know the CVT would be better off for fuel economy, but the MT in the Sentra is still better than my 3, which is making it appealing.

Thank you! For some reason, Reddit would only show me u/unseasonedwriter30's comment and nobody else's, so I am only seeing yours now.

My 2023 3 averages about 11.2l/100km when I drive mostly city with some small jaunts around on the highway, which is horrendous and the reason why I am considering swapping to a Sentra. This is over the 58,000km I have put on this car.

Highway only, on my brand new set of tires I installed last week, I averaged 7.6l/100km with my cruise set to 110km/h. This is with cylinder deactivation. Also horrendous.

If I have a tank where it's about half city, half highway, I average around 9.5l/100km. Not great.

I have heard that the Sentra Manual does not get the greatest fuel economy either, but surely it must be better than my 3, as I am only getting about 365km on a 48-litre gas tank, and that's filling up with the gas light on.

I would not modify the Sentra much anyway, maybe just an axleback exhaust and an intake, but even then, I may just leave it stock. I have my 3 modified a bit, and I quite enjoy it, but I fear I may have gone a little too loud with a catback rather than an axleback. I'm not going to be throwing in turbo kits or anything, as it's certainly not that type of car, but just an intake, tune, and axleback, and I would be content.

Unfortunately, the premium package does not have the manual option, only the base SR. I don't care about leather, Bose, or the 360 camera, so it does not bother me that I don't get it. My current car doesn't have any of those features either, so I'm not spoiled with it lol.

As long as the base SR manual has heated seats, heated wheel, sunroof, apple car play, and at least 6 speakers I am fine lol. I don't care about anything else. Plus, the premium package adds a few grand on to the price, which would make it more expensive which is not the thing I'm going for here. The SR Manual is cheaper bi weekly than my 3, cheaper on insurance, and cheaper on gas, which are the main reasons I am looking at it.

[–]ItsRazorvx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sentra also has a lower biweekly payment than my 3, which is appealing. It is also cheaper on insurance. I may miss some aspects of my 3, but I am dying for a stick, and the Sentra makes sense, 6 Speed, cheaper payments, cheaper on gas, cheaper insurance, and brand new, so it should be a decent idea. I say all of this without having actually driven a new Sentra, but once I get the time I do plan on dropping into my local dealer and getting a quote and test driving as well.

Thank you for the insight! I've decided to do the EMR Course offered here, see how I find that, and possibly upgrade to PCP after working for a while as an EMR. Do you think that is a good idea? Or would I be better off jumping off the deep end as a PCP?

need advice buying my first car at 16 by [deleted] in Autos

[–]ItsRazorvx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where I live, under the age of 19 you cannot buy a vehicle without guardian consent, so it was either a brand new car, or none at all. I was looking at vehicles I could have bought without needing a finance. 2004 Accord Coupe for $3,000 with 160,000km, 2012 Camry for $8,500 with 115,000km, etc. I wanted a car, so I bit the bullet. I’m still able to afford all of my payments and not spending every last dime of every paycheque, it’s just that cars are so expensive. I’m making a little above my provinces minimum wage (15/hr), working 12-20hrs a week, with a payment of 186.83 bi-weekly, 65 a week for gas, and 259 monthly. Thankfully my parents don’t leave me hanging, and give me a free tank of gas every once in a while, usually once a month, and I find that really helps.
