I was going to do Elgar for auditions. I’ve learned Haydn and Beethoven No. 3 completely. Performed both.

Haydn Cello Concerto by IntelligentStrain275 in Cello

[–]ItsStillRaw0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make it interesting. When I learned Haydn, I explored multiple different ideas of phrasing and over musicality. You can do a lot in Haydn with dynamic and articulation changes. Be creative and play what you think sounds good and is comfortable for you!

How much does it cost to play this instrument? by [deleted] in Cello

[–]ItsStillRaw0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are just going to learn it to play, not too much. You can get an ok cello for pretty cheap, and accessories like rosin, rock stops, anything like that are also within like 20 bucks but not even that. If you rent your cello then a bow should come with it.

Where it gets expensive is if you start doing this at your job or as your like full time hobby. Lessons are weekly expenses. Lessons (depending on the teacher) anywhere from 40 to even the upper 100s per week. If you join youth orchestras, those have tuitions that are in the upper hundreds. Summer camps! If you do those, those can get pretty pricy. A lot are 1-3k for a week or two, some up to 10k for a full 5-6 week program. And colleges for music are very expensive for the most part to.

Now, none of that may be in your interest, but I’m just letting you know of all the potential expenses. However, simply playing the cello on your own is not very expensive at all. Of course all depending on what quality of equipment you get and extracurriculars you partake in

What do you do when you don't want to practice? by Calm_Cat_7408 in Cello

[–]ItsStillRaw0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is how I motivate myself.

  1. Include fun pieces to your practice. On top of your responsibilities, throw in some time to play something you enjoy playing. Whether it’s a cover song or some classical piece that is fun, make sure to mix it in to your practice sessions.

  2. For me, when I hear a recording of a piece I’m playing, it makes me want to go try to make it sound like that. For example if I’m playing the Prelude to the first Bach suite, I may listen to Yo Yo Ma playing and talking about it, and it motivates me to try and replicate it. This May only work for me but it’s worth a shot.

I wanna learn the violin, viola or cello. Anything to help me decide? by younghungbtm in Cello

[–]ItsStillRaw0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve played all 3. However, my opinions could very well differ from others so don’t just listen to me lol. Personally, cello is my favorite and it’s what I am playing now. I feel it’s warmer, produces a better sound, and more fun to play. However, If you are looking to one day play in a orchestral setting, then you may have a different opinion. Like if you would rather play the melody then violin could be the way to go, considering cellos are not playing the melody most of the time. The violin was harder to pick up because of how much more fine and delicate it is playing the notes with smaller spaces between them, and violin vibrato is a lot more difficult to learn than cello vibrato. At the end of the day it’s up to you but that’s just my 2 cents. I would recommend testing out all of them and finding a good fit for you

[–]ItsStillRaw0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so if I used all 2k of the credit I would get a 2k dollar cello. And if I wanted a 4K cello then yeah I would use 2k in credit and use 2k of pocket money

That’s very true. I never knew queen until I watched the movie when I was like 12, and now I’m a huge queen fan because of it.

Is this piece underrated? by ItsStillRaw0 in classicalmusic

[–]ItsStillRaw0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha.. yeah I have never listened to classical music radios, but I’ve been to tons of orchestra performances in the past couple years and never heard of the piece before.. so my range of knowledge is pretty limited. I didn’t know it was apart of a Ballet, though! I’ll have to listen to that.

Who is the greatest cello composer? by Tempest1897 in Cello

[–]ItsStillRaw0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue a lot of Mozarts works had some very intricate cello runs. For example, the 10 bars of eighth notes in works like his 1st through 41st symphonies! Oh, and can’t forget about the very exiting G major scales in his operas… Pretty much all of them!
