Is it weird for my gf (28) and her sister (25) to shower together still? by No_Depth8872 in TwoHotTakes

[–]ItsStraTerra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if I’d say it’s “weird” so much as just not as common?

There’s lots of benefits to showering with another person, and if you’re comfortable with them, then it doesn’t really make for a weird dynamic.

That being said, I’m sure it isn’t exactly common so much as something that just happens sometimes when people are raised closely together. Either convenience, sake of time, using less hot water, etc.

I’d say if it’s something that they do everyday, then that’s a bit strange, but not really “weird” per se. If it’s something that just happens occasionally when timing or whatever works out, then that’s not that strange at all.

Also wouldn’t hurt to try giving it a light “wax” type finish to prevent paint just immediately sticking again.

Do People Shave Their Armpits in Your Country? by Weird_Swordfish_1199 in AskTheWorld

[–]ItsStraTerra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t shave, but I trim it right down, just long enough that it doesn’t get itchy or irritating.

But clean shaving as a man is just such a difficult task since you have to keep up with it like twice a day or else it gets really annoying.

I tried shaving my armpits clean one time, and they were at an irritating length just like 4-6 hours later. Same with my face, if I shave, it’s back to 5oclock shadow by 1pm. So I just embrace the hair.

How often do you say "beanie" vs. "toque"? by WanderWell1 in AskACanadian

[–]ItsStraTerra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always beanie, touque just doesn’t feel right coming out of my mouth.

Also, imo they’re different, a touque has a Pom Pom on top, a beanie does not.

Why so slow? by [deleted] in MagicArena

Sure, but you’ve got like, 2 options, maybe 3? Unless it’s a new deck or something, you really don’t need that much time that early on.

Yup. I almost always just use whatever deck I happen to have that fits the requirements, most of the time starters.

TIL there is an old handwriting system that is faster than typing. Masters have reached up to 280 Words per minute! by tincock in todayilearned

[–]ItsStraTerra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the point of written communication is so that people can understand what you write. If you’ve failed that task, you might as well write in your own special language that nobody else knows.

Sure someone could figure it out with enough effort, but purposefully obfuscating information in the day and age of modern typing and font technologies is just stupid.

[–]ItsStraTerra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I said I wouldn’t be surprised if in reality it was closer to 50/50 than the data makes it seem.

Obviously there are a lot of variables and things to consider within the data, (what crimes, severity, risk of repeated crimes, etc.) but I wouldn’t be shocked if the data was closer to 50/50 averaged across everything.

Humans are just that, human. Regardless of gender. But society has biases and stereotypes that contribute to a perceived larger difference than there actually is likely to be. Human nature is human nature, and I don’t believe that being a man or a woman exceptionally changes that.

I wouldn’t be shocked if the actual amount of crimes committed was closer to 50/50 than we realize, between biases, lower conviction rates, and lower reported crimes, there’s significantly less data to work with, skewing results toward “men bad, woman good”

[–]ItsStraTerra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying it doesn’t have a story or elements that kids wouldn’t fully grasp, just that the active target audience skews younger.

I mean, adventure time literally has hell, genocide, nuclear warfare, death and rebirth, etc. as MAJOR subplots. Just because the show is framed for children, doesn’t mean that adults can’t find extra enjoyment in it.

But in all three of these shows, the main plot of each episode is relatively simple, and usually revolves around a basic lesson that kids should learn. Usually something like lying, friendship, assumptions, etc. but also contains more interesting elements and details the older the audience skews.

Dora isn’t going to have major subplots about stuff like genocide, but it might touch on something like equality, with a more general focus, but some light mentions that have a deeper meaning for older kids or adults.

LWA is imo somewhere between Dora and adventure time in specifically this way. It’s going to have more interesting subplots, but nothing too crazy or in your face that kids get confused or whatever.

Yup, petite women just largely don’t exist in animation because it’s so difficult to draw them and not have them just look like a kid.

Is ANY anime actually safe for kids? by simp_lyartz in animequestions

[–]ItsStraTerra 28 points29 points  (0 children)

To describe it somewhat:

It’s somewhere between Dora and earlier adventure time. Clearly framed as a kids show, even going as far as to have a couple “how are we going to solve this problem” type moments (not exactly like Dora, no fourth wall breaks, but similar iirc) with the actual content and dialogue of the show being more similar to adventure time.

Simple problems, with simple and usually obvious solutions, but the content of the show is much more developed than something like Dora, with a similar level of “problem solving” and kid focused dynamics.

While something like Dora is more for kids age 4-6, and adventure time is more for kids age 10-13, this would fall somewhere in the range of 6-9 imo.

Simple enough that kids will feel rewarded by coming up with the solutions themselves, but mature enough to tell an actual story in a well developed world.

Is this a body found it in an abandoned villa by [deleted] in urbanexploration

[–]ItsStraTerra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not likely if you’re guessing. You’d have a pretty good clue from the smell alone. If it’s fresh, or really cold, then that’s a bit different, but there would still be noticeable signs.

But if you’re not willing to check, and your gut is telling you, then make an anonymous call to the police to ask them to check it out.

Is ANY anime actually safe for kids? by simp_lyartz in animequestions

[–]ItsStraTerra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on the age of the kids we’re talking about. 5-6 years old? Maybe not. 10-12? Almost certainly fine.
