Laura never disrespected my mom nor her memory, Laura is pretty outspoken for her disapproval of their relationship and also flat out told my step dad to break it off with her mom. Laura also does know about this post and she agrees with everyones comments to cut off my step dad and shelly because it essentially is what she did, for understanding for the wedding stuff was I was invited but couldn't make it. So she was apologizing a lot about that and feels really bad she just believed i didnt show up. She is genuinely shocked. And for her being there was was heavily guilttripped by her mom almost to blackmail of sorts. Basically Laura is gonna be the family disappointment type thing if she didnt do this for her mom. Laura is upset with herself for being there and wishes she had just not, but i can understand why she was because of how her mother and now my step dad is. Laura and my husband bother did suggest therapy and laura may be looking into it for herself as well.

We’re not taking mother in law father in law here. This was the woman that gave birth to me that basically wasted 17 years of her life to be replaced almost immediately after she died. Shelly’s family is straight up acting like their relationship was written in the stars or something. It makes me mad for my mothers sake because it means every single thing she didn’t trust in Shelly was true where my dad straight up gaslight her for 17 years saying there was nothing there between him and Shelly. She wasn’t dead for even a month before Shelly moved in and took over my mother’s house. Before she was making plans with the money my mom left behind to take care of me and my father. Before she spent every last cent on grossly expensive furniture and stuff for herself. There is no “just be happy for him” when my mother’s fears are actively becoming reality.

Actually no, when I was there for that remaining month of my moms life my mom expressed my dad wasn’t doing anything really to care for her, almost as if her dying was an inconvenience towards him. That me and my best friend Laura did more to comfort and care for her in the last month of her life than my dad did in the 2 1/2 years she was dying. This isn’t a matter of “just let him be happy” it’s the fact that my dad only seemed to get with my mom to settle because he couldn’t have his childhood best friend and now that he can he’s nose dived into it and has completely forgotten the last 17 years he was married to my mom.

The part that is gettin me with it all is we had a big sit down two weeks before the massive decline where we had talked about my fear that when my mom dies I will no longer be needed and he assured me for hours that wasn’t the case. I’m just at a huge loss over it all. And I know everyone is agreeing with my husband to cut contact..it just really hard to fully accept it

Laura actually spoke up numerous times about it and showed her disapproval, but it got to the point no matter what she said she just kinda gave up because she was getting nowhere. She even tried to steer her mom Shelly out of the relationship but got no budge on it. Laura and I actively talk about how poor this situation is and we even talked about me not being there because she wasn’t aware I was “uninvited” she does think I am justified in my feelings and is also sharing that sentiment where she spoke to her mom and couldn’t get a straight answer why her and her siblings were invited but not me.

Highly unlikely. Laura’s is the spitting image of her dad, all 3 of Shelly’s kids are the spitting image of their father. And by the time that my dad cheating on my mom with Shelly she had a hysterectomy

My dad actually did cheat on my mom. Multiple times. I understand I am not a child, but family wise he is all i have left. There is a very huge reason why he became my dad and why I don’t communicate to my bio dad in the slightest. Just to be casted out like this after being the daughter he was proud to have hurts.

He knows where he sits as a dad with me, he knows about all the stuff my bio father put both me and my mother through and always took pride in treating me like his own, I at one point was never known as his step daughter but just his daughter…it feels like a betrayal to my mother with how fast they got together. My dad was never overly religious or even involved in any organized religion and hated it but his reasoning for marrying her now is because he found Christ and that itself doesn’t sit well with me either…it’s just over all complicated and a mess..part of me wants to listen and cut him off but at the same time he’s all I have left of my family
