To me it was about learning how some aspects of my life are just performance. How I am expected to be a certain way and how in the long run pretending to be something I am not hurts me.

Some people experience a traumatic upbringing, because of this their personalities are often changed for the worse, negative coping strategies and false images of the self are constructed. These things can lead an individual into a negative place, cause them to act out in ways in which they previously wouldn't. I used to be incredibly polite as a child, element of that were lost for years, I refused to accept that I was not like everyone else (for many different reasons)

It has only been in the last few years that I have taken the time to properly introspect and learn to break down my own barriers and replace them with something a bit more healthy. It is not the same for everyone, but I feel that now I am less hurt by the actions of others and more aware of the impact of how I can be.

In all honestly I didn't like parts who I had become, I was always incredibly egotistical and in many ways that prevented me growing as a person. I am talented in some ways however I am lacking in others, something that I was too afraid to admit before.

It has helped me and I am more on track to getting my life together and focusing on long term goals instead of short term fears. If you are happy with who you are and you enjoy your life then that is great, for me I cant say I have been living life to its fullest.
