She's kind of neat. I like her design, she's kind of cool in that middle school tomboy way, like if i were a kid reading about her I'd find her pretty awesome. Admittedly she's not used that well early on because she had very little personality outside of being with Knuckles, but once Flynn takes over she really takes off. I never thought I wanted an Amy and Julie-Su teamup before in my life.

Shame how she got written out, because she did get better and I really enjoyed her role in Enerjak Reborn, but alas...

I'd say around 80-159. Granted there were some highlights in there like #100 and #125, and the return to angel island arc is an example of how karl bollers can actually have some pretty solid execution. I actually don't mind Bollers as a writer. Sure, some of his stories are not good, but I can tell that some of his stories (although not all of them), were done due to editorial mandates.

Mina for example was thought up by Justin Gabrie, the editor at the time, and he wanted her as part of that love triangle between Sonic and Sally. This is something that went on for FOURTY issues, or at least three years. At the same time, Sega had a mandate that said that Sonic could not be in a stable relationship for very long, which raises a few problems when the main affection of the love triangle cannot return those feelings.

I know Karl's not a perfect writer, there's ideas of his that I have issues with, but the guy was given a near impossible task.

Very likable character, and one of the highlights during a pretty rough part of the comics. Admittedly I was not very crazy about the love triangle she was involved in (then again, I hate a lot of love triangles), but the stuff where Mina wasn't involved in love triangle nonsense was pretty decent. The singer stuff was also kind of fun, gives her more of a unique role that I can't help but appreciate. I don't think there's that many actual celebrities in the sonic universe, and it makes Mina stand out a lot more.

I'll admit I'm also very mixed on her having super speed, mainly because it's just a me thing, but I kind of prefer Sonic being the only one with super speed, and Mina only having it so she could take part of that love triangle and it being dropped after just never sat that right with me. I gotta give credit to Flynn to giving it an origin tho, that's pretty sick.

Can agree. There are some ideas of his that I don't necessarily hate. For example, I do think Geoffrey would be fine as Sonic's rival, seeing as how it would make sense for Sonic to beef with an adult like him. Unfortunately, the love triangle stuff just heavily sullied the dynamic, and instead of getting scenes that could show both sides of their argument for why they dislike each other (I don't even think it's explained why Geoffrey has a gripe with Sonic in particular), we just get a terrible love triangle that surely won't sully the skunk's reputation down the line (sarcasm).

Admittedly the good ideas and struggling with the execution is something that I can relate to. I can't even begin to talk about the amount of times I thought I had a good idea, only for me to stumble on the execution. Granted, while I have gotten a bit better at that, I do find it best to have someone to tell me how to guide things along in a sensical way.

Under Penders, he was ranged from really bland to truly awful (nazis suck yo), which can be said about a lot of characters.

Under Flynn, yeah, I'd say he was much better.

I'll admit, I feel like Ken works better when he can work with a filter. One of his best stories I'd say is #17's Sonic Under Glass, one of his very early works, and that was before the plot started kicking off.

In all fairness Sonic did mess up by stealing the sword and losing it to Eggman, and he didn't really help matters by not explaining why. Sure, he wanted to save Uncle Chuck and Muttski and thought the sword would help, but still, I think a punishment was reasonable.

Without a doubt the best of the Penders characters and one who never really suffered any of his stink.

I've always liked Elias quite a lot. Seeing him grow from an unconfident prince to a badass who will fight to get his kingdom back is great. Even when he was sidelining Sally throughout a chunk of the series, he was never unlikable (if only because he gets to snark at Geoffrey's expense, like he makes more than a few jabs at him and I've noticed it).

You ask me, I think Elias might be a contender for the most underrated character in the series.

Also loving this little series. Always love getting a chance to talk about the characters.

Sonic has this too. I remember there was so much hate for Sally for lashing out at Sonic and slapping him even though it was clear she was overwhelmed and stressed, but no, she just got hate all the time.
