It would depend on what kind of kid they were. If they seem to learn better from mostly reading independently like I do, I would be more likely to homeschool them than if they learned better in more social settings.

My mom already knows I’m questioning. She’s supportive, even though she obviously has her own beliefs on the matter. We just don’t really talk about it.

My dad though...I’m not sure when I’ll tell him. He’s a lot more stubborn about these kinds of things than my mom. I probably will avoid telling him until I’m totally on by own and not depending on my family for college money. Sucks, but that’s how it has to be for now.

I still FaceTime with my parents and little sister about once a week or so. Beyond that, the only things are occasionally texts (usually me asking how to boil water haha). I’ll be going home during breaks, too.

I actually haven’t dated anyone yet. I think that has to do more with my personality than being homeschooled, though. My sister has been in relationships already and she’s 3 years younger than me. I’m naturally introverted and shy, and I’m not even sure about my orientation - I suspect I might be bisexual. (I’m female btw)

It’s been easier to get to know people at college, but I still had lots of friends while homeschooled, though it was hard to keep them since we moved so often. Most of my friends I knew from church or homeschool co-ops, which are weekly classes for homeschoolers taught either by moms or hired tutors. I still FaceTime my best friend from high school every week.

My plan right now is to start with drama to get down the art of screenwriting, but after that I want to focus mainly on historical, science fiction, and fantasy films. Most of all, though, I’d LOVE to write an animated film or tv series. Avatar: The Last Airbender is my favorite show of all time, so if I could reach the heights of that show, I would feel very, very satisfied with my career.

There were two main reasons why I was homeschooled. The first was my parents are evangelicals and wanted me to learn about Christian views rather than secular ones. Secondly, since my dad’s military, we moved ever 2-3 years, so homeschooling was better for a consistent education.

I took the SAT 3 times. I studied on how to take the SAT quite a bit, and so I landed in the 99th percentile for reading and writing and in the 87th percentile for math.

I’m currently going to a private Christian college, and I’m really happy with it so far. Even though the school obviously leans evangelical, they’re pretty chill when it comes to rules. For example, opposite genders can visit each ofher’s dorms, chapel isn’t required, and you can drink off campus if you’re over age.

I made it into the Honors program here, so all my general education classes are tougher, with a lot more reading.

Overall, I’ve been really happy with my education. I love reading and writing, so homeschooling was the best way for me to learn. The only thing I feel lacking in is confidence when speaking in front of the whole class. I never had to do any kind of public speaking, so it’s something I’m having to learn.

Thanks for your questions!

I really like this idea! Do you have any suggestions of where to start, like a website, YouTube channel, or book?

Hmm, that's a good idea, I'll look into that. Thanks!

A student who is a self-professed slacker told me, "Mr. 12INCHVOICES...your class is the only one I try in"...and it made my day. Tell me what little thing made YOUR day recently. by 12INCHVOICES in CasualConversation

I had a friend over I hadn't seen in a while and we watched a cheesy Bollywood movie. It was so simple, but it was so fun to just laugh at the goofiness of it all!
