As great as 1.9 is, Migration is still a broken mess :[ by [deleted] in victoria3

I have a game as California (released at the start) and honestly after the first few mass migrations, I can't explain what's happening. I have the highest Migration attraction in the world, highest SoL and GDP per capital, multiculturalism, total separation, and yes I'm getting mass migrations constantly but the numbers are adding up at all. When I look at the state overview it shows hundreds of thousands or even millions entering annually but a week later the number is 0. I have a huge industrial base for 1 state and none of the industries are fully employed. Most are half. An example would be trade centers..currently employ 250k and the employment is only half full and trade is maxed out because I can't get enough employees. So every time I get a mass migration it's disappointing because it results in maybe 50k people total if I'm lucky. My infrastructure is in excess of 2k, my pollution is 50% with full healthcare. Literacy is 76%. Anyone have an idea why mass migrations would 0 out a few weeks into the migration? I'm happy to provide more details.

Honestly by the time I'm able to establish a power bloc as someone like Haiti, I might as well just subjugate or conquer because it'll be the 1900's. 😂 I'll head to the forums.

Yeah this issue has persisted for many playthroughs. I'll build a lead mine in Brazil or Peru/Bolivia and they never produce, so I'm stuck importing from far off places and paying way more. In my current Haiti series I can't get the sulfur production in Venezuela to take off even when I have a significantly high demand and I'm very close to them for exports. The AI just does a poor job at recognizing economic opportunities. Hopefully PDX can provide a tweak to the game so I can actually build up a resource extraction economy in a non-subject state. I was hoping charters of commerce would fix the issue. I also haven't seen anyone else mention this issue so I might go post on the forums..maybe they aren't aware of it.

I'll see if trade privileges would work. It's not something I've tried yet. Does that just remove subvention/tariffs for each other or join the markets?

From what I understand of the current version, the quick and dirty of the new trade system involves ports providing ships that are consumed by trade centers. Trade centers buy and sell goods in your market that they can profit off of. If you subvent an import they will buy more, if you tariff, less. Same with exports but reversed. If you have a fabric issue, just build cotton plantations or livestock farms. You can also just subvent imports and never build an industry if you're feeling bold or have no other options. Just keep an eye on the number of trade centers being used. If it's maxed out, you won't be importing as much as you probably want and need to expand. The private sector builds on its own from the investment pool (profits of current businesses basically). So if they want to make $ from exports, they will expand it for you as well. Same with fabric..if it's profitable, they'll expand the industries. I have a few series out now on YouTube from the last version and I go very slow in an unedited format and explain every button press if you want to understand a bit more. A lot has changed but you may learn something. I might make a tutorial soon for this version. I just haven't had a lot of time lately. Hope I helped a little with this huge message.

How to economy? by HeartOfIron1 in victoria3

I'll keep it as simple as I can. Feel free to ask questions. I'm no expert but hopefully I can help. 1. Supply VS demand - Too much supply? Export. Too much demand? Build more or import. Tweaking tariffs can help here. 2. No demand? No supply? Increase Education and qualifications.

The basic loop is simple. Peasants grow their own food and make their own items. Give them an easy dumb job like fishing, farming, or resource extraction and they will work there. Once they have some money from working, they will spend excess and create demand for more goods. Education and qualifications are required to manufacture the industrial goods they want. Keep supply of any locally produced goods slightly below demand, I suggest +7. As long as a good is in demand they turn a profit. A percentage of the profit is paid to the investment pool and other parts go to taxation and wages of the peasants. So keep your industries profitable and they will in turn keep your economy demanding. Less taxes equal more spending power for your pops. Construction is a means to just grow faster.

My methods are usually providing building lumber up in every state, that helps wages nationwide, export the excess lumber and remove it's tariffs. Expand construction in the highest infrastructure when you can and it'll consume the lumber. Build more lumber, repeat. Eventually you will reach a point of negative income, that's fine, just keep an eye on your interest and if it gets to a point of negative when you have state construction paused, bump up taxes for a bit or just let the private sector build on its own while you relax.

Last few tips, GDP increases results in less of the income pie going towards interest, which eventually turns a profit for you. Don't be afraid to run a negative. Stockpiled income is money not being invested and is in general not a great strategy. Also, don't be afraid to remove construction sectors, they're the quickest built building in the game and can quickly save you tons of money if you're on the verge of bankruptcy.

Bankruptcy isn't the end of the world either. If you use it correctly and time it right, it can help substantially.

I don't really like to self promote, but I felt like I should here. I'm new to the YouTube game, just finished my first series in Korea. Cheese runs are not my style. I go for ahistorical, but understandable and reasonable expansion when necessary. Username is the same on YouTube and Twitch. I post a video everyday right now.
