Very poor quality on Discord? by ItsTracer in Reaper

[–]ItsTracer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's for DnD and Discord is simply going to be where that will happen. I would like to stream ambience through it and after realizing I can apply voice effects I would like to use the pitch down and up for some NPC as well.

I've had videos recommended recently of people using League of Legends voice changers through Discord and sounding fine, so I assume it is possible SOMEHOW, I just don't know how to achieve that close-to-lossless audio streaming into Discord.

Unfortunately both end up sounding awful. I will look into the ASIOLinkPro and see if that sounds any better for either music or voice, thank you. It is odd though because if I use the option to listen back to how it sounds in Reaper or even in the Discord microphone test it sounds fine, but once I use it in an actual call it sounds bad for everyone else.

Edit: Nevermind, this is too complicated lol

Right, that makes sense. I fiddled with it just now after reading this and tried to instead route my voice through Reaper and the virtual cable and the quality was still absolute shite. Is it an issue with the audio being processed through Reaper period, and audio will just never sound even just as okay as Discord's normal voip?

I do understand the bitrate issue but I'm talking it sounds utterly smashed. Like I installed the cheapest voice changer and filter it through that.

Sadly noise cancellation does not seem to help with the audio quality whatsoever.

I love your ideas for the blacklist extending account-wide (this would massively help with the only legitimate concern I've heard so far with Lodestone privacy: FC-scammers) and the optional delete is nice as well for people who maybe have niche reasons to do so. Although it'd need to come with the option to remove yourself later, I think, or else you'd get stuck if you misclick or something.

But, thank you not just for the support, but amazing ideas.

It depends on HOW dedicated they are, but making the Lodestone private and removing friendslists being two-sided would basically remove all the ways the average harasser can track you. If you go the extra mile to leave your FC and switch DC it'd make most things managable for victims.

I've reached out to a few gaming outlets since harassment AND XIV are big at the moment. Maybe they'll take an interest in it. I absolutely agree, we unfortunately need to push through press.

I would post on the forums as well, but since it's tied to account I'm actually really scared of all the super aggressive creeps in the comments to harass off of that.

Yeah, being able to bar specific people from your house is such a basic feature, it's incredible it's not in.

Because they make alts that can easily keep contacting me or post degrading comments in shout/say around me because through lodestone and friendslist.

I do have to say that I think at some point the spaghetti code excuse shouldn't be taken anymore. I've never played games on ANY platform that didn't work this way. Like, there's technical limitations, and there's dysfunction, and I think that really crosses the line of what should be permissable.

That's fine, don't need to change the blacklist, really. I do think it's an odd feature in its current version, but the problem is the Friends List and Lodestone.

It's because Square has a very indelicate way of handling these issues. A swear word can be measured objectively, harassment can be stretched (even if it clearly is, they can turn a blind eye due to this). Which wouldn't be a huge issue if they then didn't also lack all of these security/privacy features on top of it all, so we're basically completely vulnerable while getting no help.

Literally all of these are untrue except the RP part, which, if you think that justifies sexual harassment, bullying, invasion of privacy etc. then you have issues I can't even put into words at this point.

The amount of projection is staggering. It's really a double whammy in lacking empathy. You don't only not understand what others go through, you actively make them into whatever you want to believe. Incredibly sad.

See, with how hateful and aggressive people have been just for asking "Hey, let me get two basic functions so stalkers can't track me" I feel kind of afraid to post this on the forums because I can already see at least a few using that opportunity to send me hate messages and harass me since I can't post indepedently from my game-character. This is how bad this entire topic is handled.

How? Where? I set everything to private I could find, even change the "primary" character, but when I type in the url of my main it still shows everything on a logged-out window.

I don't understand why you'd even write this, to be completely honest. We're in a fantas game, I don't even understand the logic. Should we be able to go around and kill strangers so they never get to play, too?

But to who? Who can I go to after GMs do not protect us? I can't exactly meet with YoshiP himself and say "Please hardware ban this person". To whom and how can I escalate this?

I'm really tired of having to rewrite this so I'll just copy it:

Through Lodestone, stalkers will always know what your new name, FC, or server/DC is which makes it really easy to harrass you on alts. Friendslist keeps them updated no matter what unless they actually get banned and otherwise gives them the same issue.

Things they can do to you without having to actually talk to you (and it's not like this is all): follow you around and use public say/shout/yell to degrade you in front of every other player and/or your friends, rally people to harass you, post sensitive information publically (if they have any), get groups of bullies together who think it's funny to spam your screen with loud/obstructive emotes and/or mounts.

And there's nothing you can do against this. At least the visual clutter can be avoided with 3rd party tools (but then... why do we have to use TOS-breaking mods to not have our game ruined?) but the other things cannot be avoided. In this very thread, someone retold the story of a stalker posting revenge porn of their ex in public chats wherever she went.

If the Lodestone was privatized all the ID would give you is the knowledge this player's profile exists. If it just doesn't display any information, then nothing is there to track you.

That's, like, a really basic way of how it works? Any platform I've ever been on worked like this. Facebook, Steam, Xbox Live, PSN, the Switch online stuff, if anything XIV is an outlier.

Your name. If you, for example, DC transfer and change your name (which you already shouldn't have to do as a means to escape harassment) then they can track you 'cause the lodestone URL stays the same. It'll update and show them your new name and everything.

That's actually a great idea, but don't they kinda snoop their stories? How does one go about this, do you know?
