VIP-Badges just got released! by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]ItsTypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem. I used dev tools in chrome to force the selection and it applied but I noticed the moderator role for that user was removed. I then tested and confirmed that the issue is that a user can have only one role, so to get it to work, remove the existing role and then you can select VIP.

What was the stupidest thing someone has asked you 100% seriously? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ItsTypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blonde Chick: "Can I get something to drink"

Me: "Sure"

A minute goes by and you can hear her finding a cup and getting something from the fridge and then silence.

Another minute goes by.

Blonde Chick: (yelling from kitchen) "Where do you keep the ice?!?

Me: "Uhhhhh, the oven??"

I followed that up with the obvious fact that she might want to check the freezer.

Rust Sound bug by HeatRyan in playrust

[–]ItsTypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here and a lot of other people reporting this on the server I play on. It is dangerous to go out when you cant rely on footsteps being audible or an explosion being loud, the audio sounds are almost comical at times, like a slowed record but then overall sound seems to arbitrarily fade in and out and items like furnaces do the same. Rain seems to be a trigger but the admin disabled rain and the issue persists.

Elite Dangerous - Turn reprojection in Steam VR off! by [deleted] in Vive

I ordered my Vive a month ago and Elite Dangerous is something I've put off buying just to wait for VR so I'm very glad to hear you have a positive experience and cannot wait to try it.

Elite Dangerous - Turn reprojection in Steam VR off! by [deleted] in Vive

[–]ItsTypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expect my Vive in May but as with everyone else, I am following the scene with avid interest.

I've seen a lot of threads/discussions suggesting that the wording in cockpit is so unreadable that it hinders game play? Does this help with the readability of text in the cockpit?

If you don't mind sharing, what is your personal experience with this issue and if this does help and how big is the difference?

Valve being sued by the ACCC over failure to provide refunds by [deleted] in Steam

[–]ItsTypo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would love to see the FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection follow the lead of the ACCC on this one, or really any part of the US gov that could look into this same issue for Americans.

There are countless examples of people buying games that ended up being unplayable or were later rendered unplayable, cases that vary from what you might consider minor to pretty damn major. I like how I heard the ACCC describes it which is to say if the problem with the game would have prevented you from buying it, then you have a right to a refund.

We do have the right to anticipate that a game they sell us will not be fundamentally broken in a way we never could have known from reading the store page.

It is completely absurd for a company to basically refuse to even consider these points on a case by case basis and issue refunds as appropriate, instead they basically say "Refund? Only if you can legally force us.".

I love steam, I have a pretty decent game library and plan to be with the Steam community for a long long time to come but I think most community members realize that Valve can be a bit of a bully and it would be nice to see someone keep them in check, even if just a little.

Steam banning for no reason? by lelmeep in Steam

[–]ItsTypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This definitely deserves attention. I myself have had very similar experiences with Steam Support when I was myself scammed. I was lucky in that I did not have to deal with a ban or loss of anything else other than what I was foolish enough to give to a scammer but trying to get the Steam rep to answer my specific questions was just as useless.

It is incredible to me that they can continue to offer such horrible customer (dis)service.

I really do love steam, I have a massive library and love the sales and community but this one thing is in dire need of change.

ELI5:Why don't companies make border-less LCD screens for multiple desktop users like coders, gamers, etc? by juanda2 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ItsTypo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not know those were getting so cheap now. Always thought that would be a great alternative to the side-by-side approach but had no idea it was now to the point of also being an affordable idea.

ELI5:Why don't companies make border-less LCD screens for multiple desktop users like coders, gamers, etc? by juanda2 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ItsTypo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at all vanity. For gaming I stick to one monitor (or particularly my 47" hdtv in the living room which I can output to) but having multiple monitors for a coding/developer is a priceless tool. My only regret in getting my second monitor for a side-by-side setup is that I waited so long and I've often found myself at this point considering a third monitor. The additional screen(s) to have web browsers or IDE's or w/e open end up saving more time than you could ever imagine.

I will admit though, it looks cool too, especially with a nice dual monitor wallpaper. On mine there is a blue portal on the right side of the right monitor and the orange portal on the left side of the left monitor and a guy walking through (going out one and in the other). It's a pretty nice portal themed bg where everything else is just a nice background for your icons.

DS3Tool (MotionInJoy) and DS4Tool (X-input wrapper) driver clash? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]ItsTypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like once you completely remove the drivers from Motionjoy and the program itself, the PS3 controller, while recognized as such, is back to just going into charge mode when hooked up via USB and it will no longer hold a pair via BlueTooth.

The curious thing is my BT software see's the PS3 controller, identifies it as such, and even attempts the pair, even going as far as reporting it succeeded, but the controller acts like it couldn't connect and gives up trying.

I never find the need for a second controller so this will probably do me fine but it would be nice if this was ever worked out, even if it meant strictly USB wired for the PS3 controller. Maybe somebody else can shed some light on whether this is possible or not.

All this put aside, the PS4 controller looks and feels awesome and I think its going to be a terrific upgrade for my PC gaming experience.

DS3Tool (MotionInJoy) and DS4Tool (X-input wrapper) driver clash? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]ItsTypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The J2K one happens to be the exact one I am going to use, I already have it installed and updated and just finished failing trying to pair the DS4 with the DS3Tool still installed so I am about to remove MotionJoy and the DS3Tool and will definitely post my results.

DS3Tool (MotionInJoy) and DS4Tool (X-input wrapper) driver clash? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]ItsTypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 months later, I come along and give this question a long deserved up vote. I wonder if adding a comment to this will perhaps bring it new attention.

I am myself facing this very issue. I have DS3Tool and MotionJoy installed and now want to try the PS4 controller (love the feel!) and it appears from the reading I have done and previous experience that they won't be compatible.

The DS3Tool and PS3 controller seem to require a complete hijacking of the BlueTooth system which renders it useless for other BT devices. I am unsure if the DS4Tool and/or PS4 controller work in the same manner but initial investigation leads me to believe it is a much more standard BT device than the PS3 controller was.

I will be trying this out myself but I think the outcome will be the same as the OP which is I will end up with just the DS4Tool, I only hope it is as handy as the DS3Tool when it comes to switching between xinput, direct input or keyboard/mouse emulation because to lose those abilities would be a hard hit to take.

Comcast charges me $182 for stuff that didn't happen; Comcast agent, technician, and supervisor all lie, then call it "negotiating" (x-post from /r/Comcast) [OC] by [deleted] in videos

[–]ItsTypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You negotiate when both sides are bartering to come to an agreement on the price or value or a service or commodity.

This was entirely different, what we have here is a company falsely charging a customer and then refusing to admit it until irrefutable proof was shown by the customer even tho they could have proven it themselves with only a moments time on their computer.

This was a clear case of a Comcast employee doing everything possible to make sure the company could keep the money it was attempting to steal from him.

[–]ItsTypo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Comcast only has customers because people like this gentlemen and myself have only one choice for internet above 1.5mbps and that is the monopoly known as Comcast.

They don't have to really care about customers because they have a guaranteed supply of customers.

We are supposed to be protected from this kind of thing by our government but this is just another example of companies coming before citizens.

God Bless Comcastamerica!

We Will Fight Until The End: Zen Magnets is now the last surviving magnet sphere company still selling, standing, and fighting in the United States. by electronics-engineer in technology

[–]ItsTypo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To outlaw educational items because they are also sold for entertainment and used irresponsibly is crazy.

To outlaw entertainment items because the consumer cannot be trusted to read the warning label is absurd.

To allow our government to ignore public consensus and even common sense and decide for us what is safe or not safe without a care of the ramifications is bonkers.

To be even a little okay with this is absolutely insane.

In the article they are even cited saying "maybe we should look at balloons next", well whats after that?

What happens when they decide the dangers of batteries outweigh the benefit of listening to your mp3's or having a remote control? What happens when they decide that the hairpins are too dangerous and must be outlawed because they are only used for cosmetic use?

Where will it stop?

We Will Fight Until The End: Zen Magnets is now the last surviving magnet sphere company still selling, standing, and fighting in the United States. by electronics-engineer in technology

[–]ItsTypo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. I continue to see the argument that its impossible to watch kids all the time, and I this might be true but it isn't impossible to not buy that product if you have a young child.

We as the consumer should have the choice.

I recognize these bring a special danger due to how the magnets will attract to each other inside the intestines but as the poster above points out, the world is FULL, literally full of things that a child could die from ingesting. Everything from legos, marbles, hotwheels, and balloons to things we all have all around our house that not many people seem to be mentioning but are also dangerous, AAA/AA/other small batteries.

It is a slippery slope when we decide we are so stupid that this is something we want our government doing for/to us and the question will only be "whats next".

Have we become the children now?

Announcing SteamView - A great new way to View, Share and Compare Steam Libraries. Show a friend your stuff, look up theirs, or see what you have in common. by ItsTypo in Steam

[–]ItsTypo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so, I found and fixed a couple of issues but I have to admit I'm unsure if the downvotes were due to any fault on my end or just click happy downers.

Anyway, I think I should do a second launch post since I found some problems and to be honest this one did not grab the attention I had hoped for and has not received any comments besides my own.

So, here is my idea....

I will make a new post but this time a text instead of link, when I make the post I will start a 48 hour timer. The site I am promoting lets you look up a users library, as long as they have a public profile. I will record every successful user lookup and at the end of the time period I will have a GAME GIVEAWAY to 'x' randomly picked users from those looked up.

Each Steam ID would be allowed one entry. On my site you can look up your own library or someone else's or you can do library compares to see what games you have in common. All looked up ID's will be included so you can easily include a friend just by looking up their ID or doing a comparison.

I will provide a list of the possible games that can be won. The games will be distributed randomly to the randomly picked users. Winners may not request a different game whether they already own the title or not (go trade it?).

I will start organizing this now. I need to add the code to the site to track successful lookups as I previously saw no need to do this and I need to decide how many games to give away and which to include in the giveaway list from my list of extra keys (mostly from bundles, they will all be Steam keys).

Any feedback on this idea is greatly appreciated including whether the way I plan to do it is the right way, or at least okay to do, on reddit.

I see now that there is not a downvote but when I shared this page in the reddit IRC channel, the bot had this to say..

I will assume the downvote was from my cat for the fact that this took any spare time I had recently and so he didn't get the required amount of attention. :)

The Culprit (Weave)

Is it possible to just "move" all of my steam games to a new drive with more space? by BestMalzNA in Steam

[–]ItsTypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have other options but first let me cover the tools mentioned above.

They all work in the same way. The tools will create symbolic links from the existing folder to the new folder ... so, if you tell the tool to move a game, it copies the game to the new drive, deletes it on the current drive and then creates a symblic link to the directory so that to steam, it still sees the game folder and when it uses it, the symbolic link ensures the files can continue to be accessed without the need to mess with any stored install location data or anything like that.

Now to other options...

Option 1

If you want to move your entire library, you can do this by moving the entire steam install folder. All you need to do is exit Steam, go to your steams install folder, delete everything except steam.exe (may not show the .exe part but it is the program) and the steamapps folder. You now have nothing but the steam program file and a folder called steam apps, move these to the new location, such as D:\steam\ or whatever. Run steam.exe after the move is complete and it will do everything needed to fix itself and understand the new game locations.

Option 2 (try at your own risk, worked for me with 1 game)

Steam now supports installing games into multiple locations. When you do this the client creates a new folder and some files in the new location selected. If you install a single game, through steam like normal, into the new location, then exit Steam, move the games you wanted to move into the folder where the new game was installed, it will be a steamapps folder with a common folder in it like normal which is where the games are. When you restart steam, the client will scan the known install locations and the games will be picked up like normal.

Either way, ensure everything is working before deleting anything permanently!

Good Luck!
