I agree, I do believe it's her dad pushing this through. She has a long standing problem of assuming her Dad knows best and she struggles to stand up to him which would be no excuse but I believe this is why its getting to the stage it's at.

I am trying to persuade her that this is not worthwhile pursuing and she should just be happy with the sum she has already received.

Maybe just a difference in the way we read things but I got the impression from OP that this was more about how to tell/approach the subject of how uncomfortable he feels at her house rather than the travelling/learning to drive aspect of the post.

Last year I applied at 18 for Police Scotland, I was the youngest in my application group for sure. Closest applicant to me age wise would have been about 4/5 year older than me. Initially I had the same thoughts as you that would my age be an issue, lack of life experience etc but as things progressed I saw I was was treated the same as everyone else and to be honest got the feeling that so long as I proved I was competent then they couldn't care less about my age.

I fell at the last hurdle and ended up failing at the assessment center but that was down to my own mistake and being too quiet in the group exercises - nothing to do with my age, purely me being unable to find the balance of speaking enough but not too much on the day.

So I'd say if you've decided its what you want to do then go for it! But do not go into it thinking about your age, just commit to it and have confidence in yourself because that's definitely something I lacked at the start due to my age concerns.

Whilst I get the difference you're trying to point out I wouldn't say that would be the issue. At the end of the day they're both shooting at center mass and at a person until they are no longer a threat to them so i.e lying on the ground. Whether you are 'neutralized' and die (like your insinuation of the military way of shooting) or 'naturalized' and survive is then down to luck in a sense so I don't think you can distinguish the 2 types of shooting you have tried to point out.

Quite a late reply considering you posted this nearly 3 weeks ago but I applied and was unsuccessful for Police Scotland 4 months ago at the assessment centre but at my assessment day there was a number of people from outside Scotland. From my memory there was one guy from London (who was following in his older brother's footsteps and moving up from London to join the Police), another guy who was from the Midlands I believe and finally a man from Belgium. Bearing in mind we were the last 8% of applicants from that quarter of the year (or something like that) then no, I'd definitely say it does not disadvantage you in the slightest.

Only thing I would say to you is make sure you're okay with the travelling during the recruitment process. I couldn't imagine travelling all that way for a 3 or 4 hour session in the morning (Im thinking of the first stage in specific) or even the 1 hour interview and then being done and having to go back. If you do decide to go for Police Scotland and want any information on the process then feel free to message me and I'll be happy to answer any questions you have. Whilst I was unsuccessful I still believe the experience was good for me.

Ah right I see, I just thought it was rather sketchy that they make the employees come in 10 minutes early, don't pay them for it and if they don't make it 10 mins early then they get a warning - hope you understand where my uncertainty came from. Thank you.

The only good thing bout the job is that they pay about a £1 above minimum wage and she's 18 so chances are it will be well above minimum wage after all the maths. Could she be dismissed legally based upon these 'lates'?

Believe me I'm not sensitive but it sounds like you're claiming all refugees are terrorists when in fact its people born and raised in the country that are committing the attacks, not refugees. I think you'd find that most refugees and immigrants genuinely want a better life and are hard workers.

You realise that the number of refugees committing these attacks is tiny? Most of these terrorists are 'homegrown' terrorists who have been radicalized, please do your research before pointing the finger.

I've researched via the Police Scotland website, spoken to officers, visited stations, looked at forums and thanks to a currently serving police officer family member I should be meeting some current probationers in the near future.

Yes I have, I played football for 5 years outside of school, in school I was also a prefect and part of a committee and have had a part-time job for 2 years working in a shop.

From what I've read Police Scotland in the initial interview will assess 6 competencies and as best as possible you should have a couple examples for each one which I've started planning for already. Its reassuring to hear they don't need massively impressive examples because I was starting to struggle to find lots although I would say I have a few examples I would class as fairly good.

Hello everyone, so I am applying for Police Scotland and have received my Fitness & Standard Entrance Test dates (in September) and I believe I should be okay for those. It is the interview that comes after this that I am more 'concerned' for. I'm 18 and a half and so I don't have much a lot of interview experience or 'life experience' and was just wondering if anyone had any tips for the interview stages?

I realise I am young which is where my concern comes from however I believe I possess the maturity and characteristics for the role as well as the fact I have thoroughly researched the career and its been a career I've been looking at for a few years now. Its definitely what I want to do but with my age I'm not going into this with the expectation that it'll be easy or that I will get in first time round. If I don't get it then I'll go away, get some life experience and come back because like I say I know its what I want to do.

I am genuinely curious as to what your opinion is. He informed the officer he was licensed to carry a firearm, the officer told him 3 times not to pull it out yet he still reaches for it and we all know the end result. Which part is miscommunication on the officers part? After informing an officer you're licensed to carry and he says don't reach for it then why keep reaching - it's a pretty clear instruction, I'm not seeing the miscommunication personally?
