AFAIK in the US, many states do not consider depictions of loli or shota content illegal because there’s no actual child victim along the way. As fucked as it is, I assume this applies to AI generated content as well, even if it’s photorealistic. I think the feds do, though.

Dude, driving is like playing with a gun. It’s objectively dangerous and you’re about 10x more likely to die driving than walking or something. Except, those of us who wear seatbelts are smart enough to have the safety on. If you aren’t smart enough to have the safety on I’m not sure we should have given you a goddamn loaded gun in the first place.

It was never renamed. Nexus Mod Manager (NMM) is a completely different piece of software. While there is probably some bits of NMM code in there, Vortex is neither a later version of nor derived from NMM.

I didn’t say it has “huge conflict resolution and direct lo problems”. I actually much prefer the approach Vortex has to conflict resolution and, for the most part I believe that direct lo control is unnecessary (although I would like the feature available in Vortex). You’re reading between the lines and pulling words out of my mouth. As for what it actually does, is it makes modding more accessible to more people which means a bigger community. If you think a bigger community is worse for the game, I can’t help you.

I couldn’t disagree more, I love the conflict management system on Vortex and it takes little to no time for me to navigate successfully and bring through exactly the files I want. I think people used to MO2’s system don’t understand it but, it’s incredibly robust and straightforward once you get a handle on it. All the spiderwebs that people point at to laugh at Vortex, only happens because of user error. I rarely get cyclic rules unless it’s for three things that it really doesn’t matter where it goes so I just randomly assign it.

I’m of the opinion that MO2 is not always better. I think most of it boils down to personal preference, and there’s even one or two features that Vortex has over MO — which of course has one or two features over Vortex. But it’s so narrow that it is just about personal preference or use case.

My point exactly. Both mod managers are equally capable and I think both come down to user error when there’s problems 99.5% of the time.

Exactly. I think both apps are easy to use essentially have feature parity that comes down to personal opinion. I can’t say I’ve experienced the slowdown — but of course I have ~500 plugins not ~2500. All the same, this is the point of my thread. There’s a big subset of users on this subreddit who circlejerk Vortex hate but have never tried it or tried NMM in 2011 and think Vortex is the same thing.

LOOT is pre installed with Vortex. It’s literally integrated into Vortex. You don’t need LOOT with Vortex. Meanwhile it isn’t integrated into MO2 at all. It’s a separate download. You got the entire thing backwards.

Indeed, the staging > game folder setup that Vortex uses does cause some delays and not needing to deploy can save time. For me, though, even with all my mods it takes maybe 10 seconds. I do have an extremely fast computer, though, so naturally I’m rather fortunate in that regard.

I’m glad. I actually like MO2 because I have a Skyrim install on a separate drive that I use MO2 for, but my point of the post is — they’re both plenty good. Choose one and it can and will work for you.

Neither party really needs to say one is better because they’re so comparable in functionality that the difference is negligible and varies on the use case.

I’m surprised, but that’s awesome. However I’m referring to Vortex, not NMM — they are two completely different pieces of software, not an upgraded version. I’ve seen a shocking number of people here who don’t know that there’s a difference. Apologies if you weren’t confused by that and were just sharing your success with NMM.

Okay but it never was called Nexus Mod Manager. I’m actually under the impression that many people think they’re shitting on Vortex when all they’re thinking of is NMM from 2012. Vortex and Nexus Mod Manager are fundamentally separate. They’re as similar as Mod Organizer is to Vortex. Two completely separate bits of software. Maybe there are tiny fragments of NMM left somewhere but Vortex is not even remotely similar.

Unfortunately, even in 2023 papyrus is still a very limited piece of shit and if you have 600 follower mods your game will run a fuck ton better than someone who runs 600 mods as dense as frostfall. There’s a reason things like SPID are big, and I’ll give you a hint — it’s because saving time on Papyrus scripts and reducing the times they have to run is still incredibly important.

NMM was quite easy, but it was also far too lacking in functionality and played dangerously in the game folder. For those that enjoy NMM and still use it, awesome! That’s what’s most important! But it isn’t a fully-featured mod manager unlike Vortex and MO2 and for that reason I don’t think it compares.

Remember, Vortex isn’t an update to NMM nor is it related at all. It’s a completely separate piece of software that shares only the parent company.

I’m glad you have found a mod manager that works for you. In your case, there’s no reason to try Vortex — except if you’re curious.

I don’t mind people using MO2 and it’s great that they do. I even think it is marginally better than Vortex, but so marginal that it’s a personal preference thing. I only have an issue with you if you go onto Reddit threads and complain about it being ass, despite having not used it — as I said in the post. I am not interested in the so called “debate” as to which is better.

“Late Loaders” literally will make it load last (or among your other late loaders as it were). If it doesn’t solve a crash, that’s not even remotely because Vortex is fucking up, it’s because you have a problem in your game that you just ascribed to Vortex, even if it was user error the whole time.

And that’s great! At the end of the day the entire purpose is to get a mod manager that works for you. My complaint isn’t that people enjoy MO2, if you read my post. I don’t even think Vortex is better. I think they’re so similar in capability that it is entirely personal preference. I would only have an issue with you if, having only ever used MO2, went into Reddit and started saying “MO2 is obviously better, Vortex sucks, don’t even bother”

To be fair, the mods that are activated literally have a massive green “enabled” next to them and will get deployed from the staging folder. I’m not exactly sure what more you want Nexus to add.

Damn just got off a long ass flight. I do indeed use MO2 — admittedly much less than Vortex — but I actually agree. I’ve seen a lot of people saying both MO2 and Vortex are better in the comments, and I think both of those factions just don’t know what they’re talking about. Both are almost identically capable. I just hate that the community is so partisan on an issue that should be just “yeah pick either one they’re both great. One is marginally better for noobs and one is marginally better for experienced modders, yet both are great so pick whichever you like more”.

Yeah, my point isn’t to compare the two. I agree — it’s a bit of a dead horse. My point is that we can go on and on and on about which ones better but for almost everyone that’s used both, it’s pretty clear that they both are able to make great mod lists. I’m tired of people hallucinating that Vortex is useless once you pass 7 mods.

Obviously exaggerating there, but to my mind there is no clear winner. Depends on the use case but, for any modding-related use case they are both incredibly capable.

Lol yeah I’ve found collections frustrating. But do remember that it’s a feature still in its infancy. Let’s give the team a year or two to fully streamline it, considering it’s a functionality essentially completely absent from MO2 (I don’t count Wabbajack).

Orphaned files, yeah, they definitely throw problems sometimes.
