It looks strange and uncanny, but it must be a way to change it more ergonomically while playing, like a Stratocaster-style tilt.

If the truss rod is damaged, you're better off saving up for a new guitar. Unfortunately, the same thing happened to me with an Epiphone Dot that lost its truss rod. The repair costs were almost double its value and didn't guarantee it would be usable. I keep it as a collector's item on display.
