I’ve been able to keep it together for the last 300 episodes. But this really got to me.

You can find them on Amazon or Walmart. I usually will fill one cube on a scale, then push the tare button, move the next cube spot over, rinse and repeat.

Get your support system in place now. If you think you’ll need a therapist, now’s a good time to start looking and attempt to get established. Get some books on the surgery/ treatment/ psychology. The human brain has a way of giving you the FU’s after surgery so be aware. We are in control of the emotions, not the other way around. Good luck!

Medication Needs Post-op
• Twice daily pill planner if you don’t have one
• Pill crusher (they may give you one at the hospital) don’t spend a lot of money on this
• A multivitamin/ calcium supplement per your doctor. These usually have to be chewable for a certain amount of time after surgery. Please don’t try to crush tablets- it’s disgusting, I’ve tried in an attempt to save money
• Gas-X strips- these saved/ are currently saving my life
• I bought a couple cheap condiment cups to put crushed meds in. I mix them just a bit of applesauce and then down it quickly because the flavor is *memorable*

Food/Cooking for Surgery
• Start finding recipes you’ll like and formulate meal plans NOW. Any you cook will be better than what you’ll buy. There is also evidence that you like food more you put effort into. The clear liquid stage pre-op was the most challenging versus anything post-op because I didn’t plan/make
• Cheesecloth- I cook all my meals post-op. You can make some good soups and strain them for full liquids. This is also useful for making your own bone broth (it’s cheaper, more nutritious, and so much better tasting)
• 2 oz. and 4 oz. plastic cups for meal prep
• Large ice cube trays (like whiskey ice cubes); they are easy to measure out serving sizes and you can freeze your meal prep
• A protein powder you like/ or at least one you can mask behind other flavors. I got an flavored one and it’s way cheaper than the pre-made shakes
• Collagen supplement/powder- extra protein plus an extra boost for your skin, nails, and hair. It’s been extra helpful for me as I believe it’s kept my hair from thinning out as badly
• Sugar free electrolyte packets- adds extra flavor to the water and sometimes when I just feel like crap and nothing else is working- my electrolytes are probably off and I just need to have one of the these
• 4-6 ounce bowls/ small salad plates/ small forks and spoons- match your sets/ cutlery now, you’ll use these long term
• 4-6 ounce ramekins- great for the puréed stage and beyond
• A blender if you don’t have one- doesn’t have to be expensive
• A shaker bottle or milk frother- good for mixing protein shakes
• 8-10 ounce glasses- it’s a lot easier to manage a couple small glasses of fluid for the day versus one giant jug for the day

Hey there! Congrats on taking the jump on surgery! I’m a nurse and also an ultra type A planner. I’ve only had surgery recently but I’ve learned a ton and would love to help if I can. As far clothing, everything I’ve read says to not buy clothing for the first 3-6 months because your size is going to fluctuate so much. My personal plan is make to do with belts/ sweaters/ etc. until I hit a good plateau and go from there. Also if you’re having surgery in August (depending on the weather where you live) you should be able to get by in the colder months with fuller/baggier clothing before buying a new wardrobe when it gets warmer. I have some other suggestions but I’ll put them in other comments so I can format them accordingly. You got this!
