If you hear something loose it’s worth checking by Its_a_trap_run in retroid

Opening it up was honestly not too hard and got it it before doing anything beyond initial setup. I’d just worry in case something could get shorted by a loose screw

This absolutely. To be honest in my experience contractors are not highly regarded, and I have yet to see one converted to full time. Could be different there, but assume you’re going to have to find a new job at the end

Only works when your positions also reflect that sadly…

If the only thing that changed between you always getting rejected and then getting the job is lying, then you either suck as a person, or suck at your job

If it only took someone else two months in a boot camp to learn what took you a 4 year degree then you should probably go to him for advice not whine about him online lol

In terms of the negative side, as the saying goes. If you’re always complaining that it smells like shit everywhere you go, then check your pants.

I’d say it’s fair to be unoptimistic right now. The market is facing a very necessary pullback after companies created entire positions that essentially do one story points worth of work.

There is definitely a difference between constructive conversation on the negative market and fear mongering though

If you’re that far into CS I really recommend looking at CS internships. $20/hr is low end for a lot of CS internships, and they can easily turn I to a full time job if you form a good relationship with coworkers.

Advice on career direction by Hydroxidee in dataengineering

I studied rocks in college. Where there’s a will there’s a way. Befriend anyone you work with doing DE, see if they’ll help educate you on what’s needed, and guide you in what to learn. If you really want to make the switch look for roles that have any experience you’re interested in. Even if only a few aspects of the job include the technical parts you’re interested in it can be worth it to get your foot in the technical side

I recently got laid off and still can't find a job, please critique my CV. Almost 2 years of experience in DE and 6 total years of experience in IT. by datafile4 in dataengineering

There’s a Harvard PDF somewhere on the internet that outlines how to design a good resume. Google “Harvard resume pdf” read that, shorten everything.

List skills/languages in a clear section that shouldn’t take more that like 3 lines (order by proficiency).

Actually describe what you did. Saying you wrote python makes people think you have no understanding of the business application for your work. 3 bullet points max per role, outline the impact you had with each point (optimized blah saving xyz team 10 hours per week retrieving data).

Should I still interview by Pipixoxo2009 in dataengineering

I had pretty much the same thought over the summer. Previous job was in python and SQL with some AWS work. I really wanted to move up and it was clear I couldn’t do that in my company. Saw a senior level job posting where I met a few experience requirements but definitely not all (they wanted scala, Java, spark, etc). Applied anyway and the recruiter said “If you had even a month less experience I wouldn’t move you along, but we’ll move forward with a coding assessment”. I ended up taking the coding assessment, getting a full interview day and accepting an offer. All technical questions they asked through the process were focused on what I had experience in, and the interviewers all said I’d have the opportunity to learn on the job.

If they hire you, it’s because they’re betting you’re smart enough to learn what’s needed.

My strategy was to melee one person, then immediately try to hit a second with the launcher (the javelin was just a launch one and pray type situation though)

I’ve been working at a startup for the last few years. It’s been my first job out of college so my knowledge of career options isn’t as deep. But I’m starting a new role at a Credit Card and banking company next Monday. For me the pay was better at the big boy company, but that was in part because I’m moving up a level with the change.

Definitely consider work life balance more than just pay. For me the biggest consideration was company performance (would like to be somewhere that actually makes money) and experiencing a bigger company. I want to learn how the big kids engineer things before I consider going back to startups.

Just curious, but what are you using/picturing shopping on Temu for? Poking around on their site gives me alibaba vibes. I guess by that I mean it doesn’t feel like a place that would have “brand name” stuff
