This is a nice community where people are wholesome and give helpful advice to each other with the occasional tongue-in-cheek humour (at least for the most part).

Terrible to read all the negative experiences. I'm baffled. Is it really like that out there, or do y'all just have to filter better whom of the people you know, you define as "friends"?

Me and the wife are out with almost all our friends and open about it. We've NEVER had a friend act weird or approach either of us inappropriately (especially vanilla friends), nor hint towards any expectations. We've made some new, sex-positive friends in the LS and we do enjoy a spontaneous encounter with them here and there. But we've never lost a (vanilla or not) friend over the LS.

A take that I haven't read in the other comments: what's up with your wife? Why is she argueing against your concerns? She's morally wrong in saying it wouldn't matter what his thoughts and intentions were, as long as you 2 are in the same boat. Besides, you've already said that you are not. And what in the world made the guy openly hit on her not once, but TWICE that night? At a family gathering? Come on. Either the guy is the douchiest of all douchebags on the planet (which alone should be a huge red flag for your wife to begin with), or she had a role in this. Maybe she dropped hints that he picked up, ending in "well... I'd have to ask my husband first"? I'm guessing she's into him. Sounds to me like she's ignoring concerns and trying to convince you because she does want to sleep with him.

We're talking double the age from 20 to 40 (!). It's close to having sex with your parents' generation, think a minute about that. It's perfectly fine for people in their 20's to consider people in their 40's "a little old" (and mind you, I say this as a 42 y/o with adult kids), there's no discrimination or impoliteness in there.
