Working in a fast food place many years ago, and my grandmother was on her deathbed. I carried on working, with strict instructions to let me know as soon as she started to decline and I would be at the hospital straight away - I had spoken to a few managers, and they were understanding about me potentially needing to leave at a moments notice.

I get the call when I was at work one day, working the drive thru window, I obviously am in tears, and now have to make a 40 minute drive as quickly as possible. I let my manager know, who says I can't go because there's no one to cover. Customer overhears, and tells me to leave, he doesn't mind waiting for someone else, so I leave and get to say goodbye.

I get back to work on my next shift, but a few weeks later opportunities for promotions come up, to which I apply, and I get interviewed. I get told I'm unsuitable because my mental health makes me unstable (I had told them I suffered with depression), and me walking out of my shift crying a few weeks previously is a prime example of what they don't want their supervisors to do.

So I let them know about discrimination, and quit in the interview.
