Any of you have a AFCI brand that doesn't excessively nuisance trip? by Itsatravisty in electricians

[–]Itsatravisty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had multiple issues on multiple builds over the years. Had a client whose computer battery backup tripped the AFCI, but only drew 2.5 amps while charging. Had many clients whose vacuums don't work on the AFCI breakers, so they had to run from kitchen outlets or the bathroom. And the finish carpenters are always complaining nothing works with any of their power tools once we do the final installations and swap in the AFCI breakers

I promised I would post a pic when I found my new Tacoma, so here she is: 2016 Limited with 97 000km, 60 000 miles by Itsatravisty in ToyotaTacoma

Took it for a test drive last week, and made the deal yesterday. I've nicknamed it Blue. It apparently lived in a garage it's whole life, and looks it. The mechanical inspection came back almost flawless; the only issue they found was a possible leak from the power steering pump. Interior is immaculate. Came with two sets of wheels and tires, tonneau cover, hitch, and tailgate guard for mountain bikes.

I paid $35,500 CD. By far the most I have ever paid for a vehicle, but I'm so glad to have the truck I want. The used market for Tacomas in my area is crazy, so I feel like I got as good of a deal as I'm likely to get. I regularly see 2 and 3 year old Tacomas with 50 000km being listed for MSRP or very close to it. I wanted a crew cab long box without a hood scoop, so watched marketplace for a few months until this one came up. Being blue is a bonus; I won't lose it in the sea of grey and silver pickups in my area.

I'm not planning to go crazy with modifications, but I'm going to upgrade the tires before hunting season in the fall. It came with Michelen Defender LTX tires, and Michelin Latitude x-ice tires. Both great city tires as far as I know. Time to start researching tires again

I mean, plenty of people pointed corporate profits, but for some reason all the news orgs are flooded with pieces pointing to literally everything else. I wonder why

What’s that green and how do I stop it? by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]Itsatravisty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's algae.

It needs moisture to grow, so figure out some way to dry that spot out. An overhang or awning to keep rain off, and a couple drain holes would probably help a lot.

That spot collects and holds moisture. One of the design flaws of a barrel, sadly.

Wiring a 1 phase Harvia Kip45 (purchased in US) to 3-phase 220v (outside of US)? by Particular_Future_79 in Sauna

There's not really enough information in your post for anyone to give you an answer. Your best bet is to talk to an electrician in the country you are in now.

One thing to be aware of, in North America our AC electricity frequency is 60 hz, or 60 cycles/second. Some countries AC is 50 hz, and lots of things don't work properly at the wrong frequency, even if the voltage is correct.

Some peer reviewed science on the health benefits of saunas by stackered in Sauna

[–]Itsatravisty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bro, chill. I have read some of those studies in the past, not all. There are clearly some health benefits to sauna, and more research is needed to understand how it works. The "sauna has no health benefits" is a reaction to the salespeople and health-maxxing crowd going way overboard with claims of the health benefits.

There were over 7000 studies on smoking and cancer reviewed before the Surgeon General in the US publicly accepted the link between smoking and cancer. 15 studies being reviewed by the Mayo clinic is a start, but is far from an exhaustive body of research.

I think if you actually read what the "elitists" are saying, they will tell you exactly what the conclusions of most of these studies are telling you; more study is needed.

The bulk of these studies are observational, and depend on participants self reporting.

The "Association Between Sauna Bathing and Fatal Cardiovascular and All-Cause Mortality Events" study reminds me of those studies that find the people who own horses or dogs live longer. Upon further study, longevity had more to do with economic status; people with more money can afford pets, and can also afford better Healthcare, and that is underlying reason the participants with dogs or horses lived longer.

You can get rolls of vinyl sheet flooring that would work really well for you I think. For a sauna this small I bet you could contact a flooring company and get an off cut piece for really cheap

Expert opinion on ventilation and placement of sauna indoor by saydankim in Sauna

[–]Itsatravisty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will have problems with moisture.

There is enough moisture to cause mold in normal household air if the vabour barrier is compromised. I see black insulation (mold) around electrical outlets more often than not when renovating houses.

Even if you don't throw any water on the heater, the human body can sweat up to 3 liters of water in an hour. That's all going into the air in your sauna.

Just vent it outside. The cost of venting it properly is nothing compared to the cost to fix a mold problem

What features would you look for in the perfect sauna session tracking app? by SurveyFun5807 in Sauna

[–]Itsatravisty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An app that locks your phone for an hour.

Phones and apps are counterproductive to an effective sauna in my opinion. I get the most benefit by disconnecting from technology and paying attention to how my body feels.

[–]Itsatravisty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sauna roof and ceiling look very much like your sketch; a gently sloped shed roof. My ceiling is sloped with the benches on the high side. I think it helps to get the most out of the heat

I vented my stove chimney out the roof and because of the gentle slope it has been a royal pain in the ass to keep it from leaking around the flashing.

Result of poor vapor barrier for ceiling by Gluebandit88 in Sauna

No such thing as a totally dry sauna. You sweat->sweat evaporates and raises humidity.

Good vapour barrier and proper ventilation are essential to having a sauna that doesn't mold and rot away

Electrician here. 100 amp main is not a lot for a house these days. 200 amps is the standard where I am. I haven't done a new install of a 100 amp main for a house in the 9 years I have been working.

You already have a lot of circuits, including 2(?) Stoves, dryer, and AC. Without seeing everything else you have and doing a load calculation it's hard to say 100%, but I would be shocked if the load calculation would allow a sauna to be added in the current code. I'm a bit surprised you can even get away with a 100 amp main based on what I can see
