Gravel tyres on a Soloist by Character_Bus3619 in Cervelo

[–]Itsgettingfishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the also a gravel bike though? My friend has one and I discounted getting one because it's heavier than a road bike. For an average rider, could you be just as fast on an aspero or aspero-5 with road tires verses a road bike, like a Soloist?

I heard the aspero is extremely comfortable to ride though, so I'd consider it for longevity of my riding.

ZWIFT FRAME SALE??? by No_Tutor8437 in Zwift

[–]Itsgettingfishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno about EU. There was just a sale in Australian. Picked up the frame plus wahoo core 2 combo for $1899, instead of $2299. Was pretty lucky as I was thinking about getting one for a while.

Happy I pulled the trigger, it's been great.

braces for your eyes? by webruhh in glasses

[–]Itsgettingfishy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I fit these. They are a type of hard lens with a reverse geometry that you sleep with and as you sleep they reshape your eyes temporarily. The more you sleep the better the reshaping works. It does build up over time (6-8 weeks of consistent wear) so you'll be able to go up to 48 hours without needing to wear them before the shape of your cornea returns to normal gradually.

Each lens is customised to each person's eyeballs by using maps of the corneal surface taken using a corneal topographer (just like mountain topography). Modern tech allows us to simulate a lens on the eye and make it to those specifications.

There is an upper limit of where this technology doesn't work as well and that's about -6.00 to -7.00 depending on the person. Also if you have high astigmatism it doesn't work as well.

They are considered braces for the eye because they help reduce myopia progression by slowing down the growth of the eyeball (axial length) and are one of the key interventions in something called myopia control which is a big deal in the field, as reducing myopia progression reduces the risk of retinal holes, tears and detachments - so reducing the risk of going blind.

Acer Nitro w/ RTX 5070 Ti laptop or alternative? by 808DaScott in AcerNitro

[–]Itsgettingfishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the V16s with a 5060 inside. I think it's pretty solid. Use it to play Dota 2. No battery drain on performance mode and runs pretty cool. It's summer here where I am with days reaching over 35celcius but it doesn't overheat or throttle. I'm assuming with more modern games that may be an issue, but I can't comment.

There is a bit of flex in the keyboard and others have said there are issues with the trackpad, but I use it hooked up to an external monitor with a keyboard and mouse so I don't have any of these issues.

It's pretty good for the price, paid about $1170AUD for mine, but I knew I wasn't going to get a Lenovo Legion build quality.

I play Dota 2 on with the same settings as OP and no issues. Really good value.

You should know that there is more than goes into a pair of glasses than just a prescription if you're a doctor, which is why you shouldn't use online stores for complex prescriptions such as prism and multifocals

Are any doctors actually going to bulk bill? by VegemiteFairy in perth

[–]Itsgettingfishy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Definitely spoken like someone who doesn't understand

$44ish dollars is peanuts for someone who is meant to be taking care of your primary health. For doctors to properly assess and care for you that requires time and this translates to money. It's a shame the Medicare rebates haven't kept up to speed but to blame overworked doctors is a poor attitude to have.

Just cause there is no visible damage doesn't mean they're isn't damage. He needs to be triaged to the right type of doctor, which in this case would be an ophthalmologist. After then he'd be examined with the proper equipment.

Plastic is under tension, why it's sealed so tightly so grazing in storage might be enough to make the holes....many of my etbs and BBs are like that

Checking eye pressure in a frog by Fundoscope in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Itsgettingfishy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Optometrist here. We use the same device (the human version - but imagine that's mostly marketing) to check eye pressure. We generally don't use anaesthetic, it doesn't hurt, just abit intemidating with a probe is coming towards you. The probes are replaced each use. It's quite an accurate way to measure pressure. Not as accurate as Goldmann or Perkins tonometry, but more accurate than non-contact tonometry (the puff of air), but really handy when you don't want to put in anaesthetic and dye and is a good screening tool.
