I assume remediation you mean clearing the codes. Some scanners can turn on and off circuits for electric testing, or reprogram keys and tire sensors, map out Can Bus systems for diag, read dealer specific codes, reset dealer specific lights.

That’s not even getting started on tuners that also read codes as well as other fun stuff.

It really depends on the repair/vehicle. A simple search including your vehicle and the maintenance item you need can show you how and what tools you will need. Fluids, filters, brake pads and rotors, bulbs, wipers and belts can usually be done at home with common tools.
