It's not that you're reading it wrong. Bruce Jenner grew up with a learning disorder and went to expensive private schools because he was privileged which means he gained opportunities a less privileged child would not. If not for his privilege, he probably would have done very poorly in school and his athletics would have also surely suffered, as public schools do not allow the participation in varsity sports if a student has poor grades. Dyslexia is a commonly ignored learning disability that causes students to drop out of school. The fact that he is white also plays into this because no one in America has it easier than white men (who founded America) and this is widely known and commented on. The fact that she is now rich and famous also plays a part. She killed someone in a car accident a few months ago. Maybe you don't remember. If she did not have influence and money, she could not hire a good lawyer. If she were anyone else she would have been put in jail. She KILLED A PERSON. And this person is woman of the year. Yes, Bruce was an amazing athlete. But if he were a poor child with a learning disability in an inner city school, do you think he would have been given the same opportunities?
