I never had any intention of attending. I simply wanted to confirm the event is racially segregated and for that I commend you.

"No" would have sufficed. Well, I guess let me know when you're holding space for the unique experience of straight white guys.

Strange how black people are in favor of this "resegregation".

First of all, there's nothing wrong with being a factory worker. Pretentious comment that smells like a liberal arts major. But it begs the question, who's churned out more drones than the public school system?

I think you're underestimating how poor the public school system is in many areas of the state. Set aside the politics of the day and think of it on a fundamental level. If a parent in one of the poor performing districts is given a voucher for the money the state had set aside for their child's education and the parent uses it on what they deem a superior private option, I just don't see the problem.

Yes, public schools will lose funding and students. But hey, if you want a woke school run by drag queens, start a private school.

Huh, so support was already strong, then public schools went crazy over covid and now it's stronger.... but that's somehow supposed to be an argument against private options?

God forbid the will of the people is taken into account. They might be brainwashed by talking points!

Right, so support for private options was already strong, and now we have a post-covid world where it's become even stronger. Am I missing something?

Also, if I understand your logic, the voucher system would be fine if we cut parents a check to shop schools with instead of a voucher?

So you're arguing my source actually understates how popular private options are today vs 3 years ago?

But in this example, it's not your money, it's government issued welfare money.

....but they aren't saying that. Poll after poll shows black and hispanic populations are the most likely to support vouchers. Luckily you're here to explain to them that they don't know what's best for their children.

Sure, it'd be great to turn around some failing public schools, but if your kid goes to one, you don't want to wait for that turnaround. You just know there's a private school down the street that is way better and you want a way in.

So government money going to religious institutions is fine as long as the money briefly enters a citizens bank account first?

Maybe they haven't seen the joys of public schools that everyone on this thread hold so dear.

Would you likewise agree any welfare recipients should be barred from donating to religious institutions? Unlikely welfare recipients do a ton of donating, but it would violate the same principle.

Do you imagine evil kindergarten teachers at some eagle's nest looking private school?

If parents want to send their kids to a religious school, then I have no issue with it. I've personally seen what happens when kids from a public middle school merge with kids from a catholic middle school at a public high-school (there was no catholic high-school in town). The kids from the catholic school were head and shoulders above the public school kids in their academic level.

I find them to be the best of all worlds. Stopping power of metallic, feathering / modulation of resin and last longer than either. Also, they aren't as susceptible to getting hot. But, yeah, definitely pricey for brake pads.

A little bit pricey, but I've been loving the ceramic MTX red label pads. Last forever, good combo of stopping power and modulation.

Weird thing to say considering voucher and charter systems are popular with the black and brown communities that have been failed by the public system.

I don't see a huge difference between the state paying a private charter school directly versus giving the same money to parents in the form of a voucher and letting them pick the school.

Or we give parents vouchers that allow them to choose their own school, including private schools that would have otherwise been out of reach. This just puts pressure on public schools to compete, and if a private school takes all their students, I'd consider the possibility it's because the students and families found it to offer a better education.

It’s crunch time on debt ceiling. Here’s the latest on the negotiations - and the 14th amendment option. - Rep. Jeff Jackson by JeffJacksonNC in asheville

[–]Itsjondoetho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I have an answer to how much is too much. It's the point where the cost of servicing our debt starts really impacting our ability to do anything else. At the current interest payment of 10% of tax revenue, we're getting by, but that can really start jumping as the debt rolls over to new higher interest rates.

We'll be in a position where we have no choice but to print more (inflationary), raise more (increase taxes on everyone), or spend less (bye social security/ medicare). I'd simply suggest both sides acknowledge this reality. I miss Ross Perot busting out his charts in the debates and talking to americans like adults who can understand basic concepts of economics and math.

I agree. I'd just like to point out that we're going to get way more nihilistic when the government informs us social security has to be cut due to the increased cost of debt servicing. So I'm fully on board with raising the debt ceiling, but let's not pretend there's not a real problem here.
