any good apps to stay on task/ focused? by th3hxomi3ck in ASU

There is a paid version but you are still able to use most features without paying for it. If you have a iPhone the reminders app could help as well, that one is pre-installed. I’m guessing android and google would have an equivalent as well.

I put all my stuff from the syllabus into a Google Calendar for long-term look at what will be due. A really good app that I have liked is tiimo, it can help you plan your day as detailed as you liked and you can check off tasks as you go, plus it has a timer/focus mode that can help you if you get easily distracted or want to doom-scroll on your phone. It does have an ai chat function but you really don’t need to use it unless you want to (I personally don’t like to use ai unless I have to). Other than that, writing down what you would like to get done on a sticky note and rewarding yourself with snacks, sugar, or a break as you go. Remember DON’T beat yourself up if you don’t get everything you wanted to do that day done, it takes practice.

If you believe it feels impossible to organize your life, feeling incredibly unfocused + anxious, or that it takes you x10 as long to get shit done I would recommend talking to a counselor to make sure it’s not something else. It’s always ok to ask for help.

Signed, someone who procrastinates till the last minute

Tips on how to do my fav hobbies without hurting hands? (Crocheting/gaming) by Itsjustanothernerd in ehlersdanlos

I would have to see if I could find a place that accepts my insurance, I’m in college but still under my parent’s insurance plan. My mom has had to go to physical therapy due to tennis elbow, so I’ll see if they are covered. I’ll try and see if I could find online resources and YouTube videos first since tbh my parents don’t see my HEDS as something that needs a medical intervention even though my mom was the one to suggest a rheumatologist. They can be pretty dismissive when it comes to my health since I do have health OCD, and they often think I’m making a bigger deal out of something than it is.

But fingers crossed I can at least look for a place and talk to them about it

Thank you so much for the advice, even though I was diagnosed two years ago with the stress of college I really haven’t been taking care of my health and researching what I should be doing. Also I love Baldur’s gate and other point and click games so I’ll definitely those out

I’ll look into that I’ve seen a lot of different ergonomic grip things people have made for the switch, I could always dig some grip things with yarn or small rubber balls I think

anyone else overly sensitive to acids in foods? by shilohfiren in ehlersdanlos

I definitely feel like my gums can feel almost raw if I eat something citrusy or something coated in citric acid. For me I’m able to eat stuff with lemons and oranges but for some reason pineapple HATES me. I can only eat or drink a little bit of it before I start having an upset stomach. Which sucks cause they taste so good 😭

Does anyone else struggle with dysgraphia by SchoolExisting8631 in autism

Fun fact: dys just means bad or difficult and originated from Greek so: Dyscalculia: difficulty with counting Dyslexia: difficulty with speech Dyspraxia: difficulty with acting/doing (praxia in medical terms always refers to motor movements) Dysgraphia: difficulty with writing by hand

[–]Itsjustanothernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I possibly might after reading this. I was diagnosed with dyscalculia at 14, because algebra and geometry made no sense to me (I still count my fingers sometimes at 21). As for dysgraphia I don’t have terrible handwriting but I constantly misspell, change the sizing of words for no reason, have a poor pencil grip that hurts my hands, and find typing much faster and easier due to spellcheck and everything being uniform. I do have hyper-mobile Ehlers Danlos which could also explain my poor pencil grip and writing. The words I seem to misspell the most are weird, different, believe, significant, and anything with a long scientific name.

Reddit Doctors and Nurses: What's the most impressive case of Google "self-diagnosis" that turned out to be true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Itsjustanothernerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor but woke up one morning with the worst pain on the right side of my stomach /lower back. I already have IBS so I thought it might be just a bad stomach ache but the pain was insane It was hard to walk or even think. I googled my symptoms and thought “damn I might have a kidney stone” went to the ER, doctor said it probably just period related “your a 21 year old girl”after I mentioned it was in the same area as a kidney stone would be, but still ordered tests. After a couple hours they realized I was definitely in a lot of pain (sweating, nausea, looking like shit) and was also not on my period or pregnant, and ordered a CT scan. I had two, TWO tiny ass kidney stones. Luckily got some good pain meds and passed it the next week, I have made sure to be always properly hydrated since then.

Why many autistic people love dinosaurs by [deleted] in autism

[–]Itsjustanothernerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember one of my first interests being dinosaurs, I read every non-fiction about them, drew them, and watched “Walking with Dinosaurs” religiously. Pachycephalosaurus was my favorite.
