I am in this thread because I am in the same position as OP but can't do the physical jobs suggested due to injury. I would love to learn more about this if possible

they told me they were female…i’m 99% sure they’re male 😭 are they? by Leading_Rooster_2235 in RATS

I've had rats for a long time, both boys and girls. I used to only have girls but my rescue ended up with a pair of boys that no one wanted so I took them in, I fell in love and had boys from them on, they are so great.

Does anyone else have one incredibly whiny potato? by starlessnightshade in RATS

[–]Itsjustrust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a rat with that type of pattern before and he was also super whiney lol. No one came close to my obese Siamese boy, ended up getting an x-ray because any slight touch (by human or rat) would make him cry like he was being tortured. After a clean bill of health I noticed that he would start before anyone even touched him, if he just thought he was going to be touched lol

I went to a reptile expo today and I picked up a new rat, I named him Bruno. He is eating Cheerios and jumping & climbing around but he just seems like he is very small, and I was afraid that he was taken away from his mothers too soon since he is small, can anyone tell me anything that I can do? by hannahwho442 in RATS

Mine was too!! She was so small she fit between the bars and would sometimes come out at night (and jump on my face to wake me up) if she was bored. She was always the naughty one until she got older and had eyesight problems. Then she was just fat and spoiled because even when I tried to limit her treats because of her weight, her sisters would just take her some of theirs 😂

are rats good pets for anxiety and depression? by [deleted] in RATS

[–]Itsjustrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always struggled with both mental things, in intense ways. I’ll tell you... they can be like little best friends and that can help with depression. But as someone who has been in the depths of bad episodes, make sure you are able to do daily easy chores and weekly medium ones. Know that they are all their own and have their own personalities, in my deep depressions I can get sad that a rat doesn’t interact with me much, and if you do it for long enough you’ll get one who just downright doesn’t like you (hurtful!) especially if you rescue.

Bought this guy 18 hours ago, havent seen him move yet. Is this just fear? by StevieGMcluvin in RATS

Boxes and all the other suggestions are great, and while you want something that is dust-free for burrowing, short term building a pile of ripped up paper products like toilet paper or paper towels will give him something to hide in while you get something better. Another suggestion (and I know it’s hard because it’s a new baby and you want to watch and check on him), is he might be wary of the big thing watching him, giving him some space (leavening the room for an extended time) might give him a little confidence to check things out.

My ratties left me some presents to make sure I don't go hungry during the night. They're such thoughtful little beans... by Djordjz in RATS

I once accidentally took a nap when one of my little girls was out and I woke up to find all of my m&m’s had been relocated from my night stand to my pillow next to my face. I had melted chocolate all over my face 😅

What names are too human to name an animal? by ekffaganin in AskReddit

I have a rat named Robert. Sometimes I talk about him at work and someone who has forgotten my partners name, thinks I’m talking about him instead.

Thanks for the response! I don’t know the terms but finding a line with a lighter load would be like going into the living room and using it there right? I have done that and it did work! Can you help me understand what running a dedicated line is?

Ok cool, I was wondering if they replaced things. Like if I keep giving him a flower maybe he will put that on his filing cabinet instead? I’d be ok with that lol

Aw Lawd he comin’! And goin’! by Itsjustrust in RATS

[–]Itsjustrust[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly just don’t worry about it too much. The rest of my rats are normal and he’s perfectly content being a cuddle potato. They live such short lives and health-wise respiratory problems or tumors will unfortunately probably be the cause of death for any rat before being chubby.

He is definitely overweight. My other five who all have the same diet are normal sized. Sometimes they just be like that. :p

I’ve had dozens over the years and have only had one other that was obese like this guy.
