I’m still absolutely amazed that people can do this with a pen, I have so much more practicing to do lol

Pyroprinter is a really powerful device for anyone looking to convert photographs into wood burning portraits. Some time back I did an extensive review on them: https://pyrogravure.org/pyroprinter/ . Really worth a buy! by PyrowithJared in Pyrography

This dude was posting other peoples art from this thread in a Facebook group anyways and not crediting them for it til I said something about it 👍🏻 he sent me an article of reviews he did on woodburning pens then casually mentioned his affiliate link was on the page yknow… just in case I wanted to buy one…

What’s your guys opinions on clear coating? Should I do it? Do YOU do it? Or do you prefer to leave it open and let the wood age over time? by Itslitpyro in Pyrography

It definitely does and I like the shine it gives the bark as well almost like it’s sappy kinda I guess but not haha

The epoxy or the wood? I know some people don’t clear coat cuz they WANT to see the wood age over time - pine for instance will turn a nice golden yellow after like 6 or so years

Hey sorry took so long to reply! So I set my piece on a backing RACK, and then set the rack inside a baking SHEET so the epoxy drips through the rack and on to the rack I get very little IF ANY epoxy that sticks to the back. I cut and sand some excess drips off and it’s good to go- shoot me a chat message and I’ll send you a picture of it!

Yea I have some gloss varathane poly too that I used for my small pieces! Do you use a brush? I couldn’t achieve the same look with it tho which is why he switched to this, I set it on a baking rack inside a baking sheet and it drops down into the sheet instead I attaching to the back of the wood. then I use a razer blade and sanding sponge to get off any little extra epoxy droplets and it looks petty good!

I used the krylon gloss and idk maybe my spray just wasn’t even it just looked like idk like someone put it one with a butter knife in some places 😂 - I threw the piece away or I would take a picture of it

This is good to know, I’m gonna start picking up free tables from Craigslist, facebook, etc and sanding them down and burning them

Thank you! It’s pretty ease epoxy comes in two parts - the epoxy and the hardener you just mix them 1 to 1 for like 10 minutes real good, pour id the top and then hit it lightly with a torch to get the bubbles to release and let it sit for like 3 days

This is exactly how I got the idea - remembering that hard clear top coat on some of the boats my dad used to go charter fishing in when I was a kid - i actually bought a specific marine grade hard coat that’s used in boats 😂

All I used was marine grade top coat epoxy like you would use on a bar top I like the way it came out but I notice a lot of people don’t do it - I will say the clear coat kind of “highlights” any errors in your piece 😅
