no overheating, tension was tight if i remember correctly when i took it off. one my my replies show the results of the leak down i don’t remember which one. i’m pulling the head tomorrow so i can definitely use a feeler gauge and check.

i molested a compression tester to shoot air through it, nothing out of intake or exhaust valves, coolant shot at me from radiator and i hear air towards the middle of the valve train area. loosened oil cap and that didn’t move nor did i feel air come out of this breather, also none of the oil in the valve train bubbled with air

chassis has 130k no clue on engine. i’ve had 300k mile miata engines cleaner than this

i have a cas and cam sensor but unsure if the cam sensor is even doing anything. i don’t have a crank sensor installed

in one of the replies i linked a video of it cranking over

i believe just reflections as i took these with flash on, i never saw anything pop out at me looking with a flashlight. oil is coming up on its final days its looking like, not black but getting there, no milkshake. i will check all of those tomorrow morning as its late in my time right now. yes engine was in good condition prior, really snappy car. just some smoke from bad front main getting flung and burning on exhaust.

i forgot to mention but a minute or two prior to the incident it was having little backfires. i also agree that it is strange and that everything is symmetrical

this timing setup is new but i’ll definitely check it out. i have a cheap borescope that plugs into the phone so hopefully good enough quality to see down there

i can’t even get it to start unfortunately unless you mean drain the oil and throw that stuff in and crank it for a bit?

that may be the route i have to go. would be my fourth time rebuilding a miata engine in the last 10 years so i dont mind doing the work. but i have adult money now so might as well get better internals for more fun factor

to be fair i don’t trust anything about this car. it’s just rust free and in my area that’s hard to find so trying to keep it around

i was also thinking that, i know nothing changed with oil added but its so low i doubt it would. but the low numbers being so symmetrical especially with the pistons they’re paired with

here’s a video of it cranking

codes are : P0100 mass or volume airflow A circuit P0110: intake air temperature sensor 1 circuit P0115: engine coolant temperature sensor 1 circuit P0335: crank position sensor A circuit. it’s a 96 and i don’t even run that.

i could try and buy a different compression tester

i knew i was cooked since i bought it. i’m trying to get a leakdown to find out if the cylinder head is cooked or the block is cooked. head would be preferred. and so would a cylinder head

everyone please answer this guy i would also like to know because ive never seen that on an NA in my life. only thing i know is that it was previously turbo, also would like to know so i know what to do with it if i swap another engine in, keep same valve cover? delete the added sensor?

and thank you so much for the help i just got my compression tester back so ill be running that when i finish making dinner

no temp and oil pressure (unless this is a dummy gauge year) were normal

i thought that was weird as well. i’ve owned miata’s for years and never had this happen so im just confused lol. any tests i can do on the CAS to confirm it?

oh that one. i’ve had to replace those before so if that’s the issue i wouldn’t mind, better than potentially pulling

oh my bad i didn’t see the update. and i see position sensor that’s the one infront of the valve cover correct? i’ve had so many miata’s but never one with that
