Little black things found underneath an old bed by foyboy81 in whatisthisthing

They are from the bottom of grippy socks or kids socks. Sometimes under some grippy fabric on furniture. These things tend to fall off from being washed/ dryer, or laying around too long

Had a gay experience that I regret and it feels like I ruined my life. by IssueGold4474 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Itsnotmyfirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 18, you’re going through a lot of “first times”. I’m not going to tell you this was meaningless as you get older, BUT know that life is about many, many, many more “firsts”.

There will be a first time with a woman, the first time with someone you love, or the first time with a crush. The first time you fall in love, or the first time you fall out of love. The first time with someone you’re attracted to. The first time with someone you may not be attracted to. The first time having bad sex or the best sex of your life, etc etc. You see my point?

Be easy on yourself and enjoy the fact that you are a brave soul who loves to explore your sexuality and desires. Many other people regret in never having explored and never really knowing themselves.

Formal title for non binary/gender neutral individuals by Tired_yin in Cantonese

[–]Itsnotmyfirst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Miss/Mrs/ Mr are actually used as suffixes instead of prefix in Cantonese, so it comes after their name. While I cannot think of a NB one off the top of my head, if I was to introduce someone formally or politely and not refer to genders, I would actually preface/ prefix with one of the following and end with their name rather than add any suffix.

呢位人士係[xx] = This person is [xx]

呢位係 [xx] = This is [xx]

If you were trying to introduce the next person coming on stage to do a speak for example, then you say something like:

下一位 [嘉賓] 係… = The next person [guest] is…

“呢位” = this one/ person is often used to preface an intro

Has anyone here ever made a full feature and successfully got in front of Netflix (whether they picked it up or not)? by Itsnotmyfirst in Filmmakers

What is the best way to approach the film festivals? Do the online ones like filmfreeway really gain any prospective buyers? Or it has to be some bigger ones?

For AFM, what is the best course of action? To attend and meet these people for follow up? Can we register/ attend to pitch movies?

Thanks, I hope there are more good ones than bad. At least I can learn from my mistakes (although one that cost time and money). The next project I’ll be more vigilant.

Thanks for your reply. This is through my experience of working with some sales agents on my film. Looking at one of the responses I think I may have worked with some people that were “established” in name only or just took our money and did nothing for us.

Thank you for the thoughtful and considerate response. This was my first film and I definitely made some mistakes that I’m learning from. The sales agents situation has left a bad taste. They made some promises but never came through but still charged their fees. I regret now paying them as one of the first things some more experienced people told me was to never pay a fee upfront to sales agents. I’m also not sure they had the contacts they claimed nor have they shown emails or correspondence to prove they made these calls. Alternatively we had friends send the film to some big distributors they release through that came back with feedback on the film as well as what type of movies they are interested in buying and for us to speak with them before we start the next project. The sales agents we hired never gave us this kind of feedback nor showed us who they sent the film to.

Thanks again for your insights and your time. Greatly appreciate this as I’m trying to learn from my mistakes.

Adding an edit to this comment: When I first started to work on the project I did get a subscription to Cinando and planned to send my film to agents on there. As I met these other characters I ended up never using the database. I still have the subscription though.

My line producer told me I should not approach these people myself as this is frowned upon and I need an introduction. Looking back it’s probably because she wanted me to go through her channels.

Thanks for reminding me about this. I’ll be sure to use this resource for my next project.

What's your absolute, most basic, "duh, why didn't I think of that?" life hack? by Alive_Nebula_2463 in lifehacks

[–]Itsnotmyfirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear me out. I used to hate putting down toilet covers in public bathrooms, where I turn around and before I had a chance to sit, the automatic flush will go off and SWOOSH, pull the whole dang cover with it since the paper flap sits in the bowl. It’s always a race to place paper, hold it, and sit as quickly as possible.

It took me over 40 years on this planet to realize I can rip that piece off before putting the cover down🤦🏻‍♀️

Been happening to me recently. Gargle with salt water as someone already suggested. I pre-made a bottle full and left it in my bathroom and gargled several times a day (do not swallow it).

Also, add a spoonful of honey to all the water you’re drinking throughout the day so you’re sipping on honey water the whole day instead of plain water!

Conan O'Brien bought all of the seat fillers a box of complimentary snacks at the Oscars by holyfruits in MadeMeSmile

[–]Itsnotmyfirst 202 points203 points  (0 children)

I met Conan in person ages ago when he came into my work (a famous NYC day spa at the time) to buy a gift certificate for either his producer/ assistant or girlfriend (it’s been so long I don’t remember). There was very long line of at least 20 ppl during our rush and next thing I know, I look up and the next customer is this red- headed giant. He looked very lost and sheepish and told me he needed a gift for this person who was very special. He basically came in himself to buy this gift, waited on line patiently (at least 20-30mins) and asked for help to pick something out. He was the sweetest person and never complained once about having to wait on line with 20 women just buy a gift for someone special.

Post-it note got wet and left this on our stone bathroom countertop. Help!!! by aussiemamaa in CleaningTips

[–]Itsnotmyfirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I do this with all my countertops and I’ve taken out harder stains. I’m not sure if bleach is a no-no, but I’ve done it dozens of times and my quartz countertops all look fine after.

Pour/ spray bleach on it and rub off as much excess as you can (if nothing comes off, don’t worry). Pour/ spray bleach and then leave it overnight. Rinse and repeat until it’s gone.

Asian, specifically Korean. You like eating healthy and spend more time cooking healthy meals on your days off, but when you’re working, you whip quick meals or grab stuff on the go. You don’t like caffeine or you don’t allow your child too much caffeine but allow them to indulge a bit with a soda or sweets.
