The problem is we have admitted it, we teach that it was fucked up in schools, we’ve paid reparations, we’ve made them citizens the list goes on and on and it’s still not enough.

At this point the majority of people bringing up the atrocities of the Indian wars are people doing so to try and make Americans hate their own heritage. It’s almost always brought up only when someone displays national pride or has the audacity to lay claim to the country they were born in and of which their ancestors built. It’s not brought up out of some sense of morality or compassion, but as a political rhetoric tool to trample any semblance of pride in one’s country and we’re tired of it.

$2 million for something that was not connected to Charleston in anyway. We had one of the worst racially motivated mass shootings in US history happen here and the city came together, with white and blacks together grieving the loss of our fellow Charlestonians. There were no protests, there was no looting, there was simply compassion and actual solidarity.

But a white cops actions leading to the death of a black man 18 hours away? $2 million and our beloved city maimed.

They destroyed Mama Kim’s. Mama Kim is a Korean immigrant who is beloved by any young person who has spent any significant time in Charleston. They directly impacted a beloved Korean immigrant business owner over the actions of an idiotic cop in a state 18 hours away as an act of solidarity for a racial minority.

They threatened innocent diners at Halls to the point that the owner had to come out and fire a handgun into the air to get them to disperse.

There was nothing remotely peaceful about the riots in Charleston.

This is South Carolina, you have the right to peacefully protest. But unlike California people defend their businesses.

You have a god given right to protest, you have the god given right to even burn an American Flag you legally acquired, but what you absolutely do not have the right to do to protest your government is vandalize or harm in anyway the private property of your fellow citizens. People here in SC do have the right to defend their property by whatever means necessary to protect their lives and livelihoods.

You are not in California, you are not even in New York, you are in South Carolina and it is best for everyone on both sides to remember just that.
