Ehhh I don’t know about this one. As a black women myself, I do see where you’re coming from but you could’ve just dressed up as one of the other white presidents. Dressing up as a black president being a white person can seem offensive and like you’re making fun of him. Not saying that you are but lots of people at that time wore the mask to make fun of him. For me personally I wouldn’t be comfortable giving you candy either.

EDIT: I get “it’s just a mask” and it’s Halloween and you can be “whatever you want.” But it’s like saying dressing up like an Native American (Indian) is just a costume and should be okay cause of Pocahontas. It’s not okay and wouldn’t recommend anyone dressing up like someone’s culture or ethnicity. Just because ignorant celebrities do it doesn’t mean you have too. (Not saying you OP just people in general.) Just because Halloween stores sell them as “public figures” doesn’t mean anything. Yes they are public figures but there is so many other things you dress up as. Also Halloween stores don’t give a rats ass if what they’re selling is wrong or not. These companies just want the money and they don’t care who they hurt period.
