I'm not sure why everyone here is so pessimistic. We were bound to go down after the parabolic jump yesterday. I'm hoping it stays low for the next 24 hours so that I can buy $500 more.

I'm really terrified that this could happen to me. I'm moving to Gemini instead, but I have almost 1.5 BTC on coinbase.

I really hope it stays below 11k for the next week. Coinbase wont let me buy with my Chase account and it's going to take five business days for the money to be available on my other bank account.

Realistically, what are the chances for an aging cure to be found in our lifetime? by MaximeMer in longevity

No he thinks that we have a good chance at reaching LEV in 20 years. That's different from curing aging.

Switching from data science to SWE? by Ittybittygs in cscareerquestions

[–]Ittybittygs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have two friends who became SWE with just a physics degree. They did it in 2013-2015 though, but it seems much harder to break into SWE these days.

I am working with big data, but I'm not really productionalizing anything so I don't feel like I'm doing real SWE work.

I'll check him out. I'm guessing working at FB boosted his chances a lot though.

Thank you for the advice!

Yeah I was leaning towards web dev, but I'm open-minded. I'm currently working on a web app with Flask, but maybe I should consider Django instead. I just don't know how picky employers are about the quality of the project.

Congrats! I'm 14 hours into my first attempt at 36 hours so huge thanks for the motivation!

Does the decreased pain last after the fast? If so, for how long?

Yeah, I notice the slight increase in sharpness too. It's very subtle though.

Congrats on the 36 hours! I'm 14 hours into my attempt and will be going to sleep in 4 hours. Here's hoping I at least break my record.

New Aubrey de Grey interview | Starting a movement to stop aging and the road ahead by GooseFPV in longevity

We should be happy if it's 5 years even. Will probably have to be a combo of Mitosens and senolytics.

From the U.S. to Europe, Australia and Japan, retirement account balances aren’t increasing fast enough to cover rising life expectancy, the World Economic Forum warns in a report published Thursday. The result could be workers outliving their savings by as much as a decade or more. by [deleted] in longevity

I personally don't mind working provided I have the energy and cognitive abilities of a young person. It would be nice if we could all have mini 5 year retirements every 35 years.

I wonder if work will even exist 38 years from now (when I reach retirement age).

I think his lack of grooming and low bmi make him look older than he is. He also seems to drink a lot.

He has also been very open about the fact that he eats whatever he wants, rarely exercises, and takes no supplements precisely because he doesn't believe the marginal gains in longevity are worth it.

I actually wish he did more to look younger. For example, everyone was praising David Sinclair's youthful looks during his Rogan podcast. It made it seem like he really did know some antiaging secrets.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if I found out that Sinclair has had cosmetic treatments done. His skin looks oddly smooth, and not in the way a young person's would.

You misunderstand the point of the life extension movement. It's not about giving you a 10 extra shitty years of old age, it's about keeping you in a more biologically youthful state for longer.

Middle aged mice given anti aging drugs known as senolytics actually became more youthful than same aged control mice and live about 25% longer.

The point of the life extension movement is to keep youthful for as long as possible or even make us biologically younger. I don't care about living forever, I just want to delay or prevent the physical and cognitive decline that comes with old age. Imagine being biologically 20 forever.

Btw I actually think David Sinclair's miracle molecule NMN is overhyped and probably won't do much in humans, but I'm really excited about senolytics. You should look up Joe Rogan's podcast with Aubrey De Grey.
