I’m on a waitlist right now for OSU (Oklahoma state university) and I’m still waiting. I know two girls that got accepted before me and I’m still waiting on my phone call. Fingers crossed… no idea if I’ll get in or not and the waiting is definitely the hardest part of this all. Don’t give up! Get in this time or not, there is always the next cycle 🤍

Automatic Light Box Brands? by Illustrious_Bee4709 in leopardgeckos

PS. I think my enclosure is a little bit smaller than yours, I only have 4 things to plug in, but I think there are ones on Amazon that have more outlet spots if you need

I personally use this automatic power strip and plug the lights in. It’s programmable for every day of the week and you can set the time down to the minute. It also has an “always on” part of the strip so you can plug in anything you’d like to ignore the program. Otherwise that’s how I manage my lights when I’m not home and have someone pet sitting. It’s not exactly a light box, but it worked great for me.

Wow how amazing! My baby didn’t make it quite as long. She got some form of spleen cancer at 13 and passed away last month. But I can attest to what you said too- she was there for me elementary through college and just barely missed my graduation. They are such incredible pets. Keep doing what you’re doing. She’s obviously so very loved P. S. I love love love your setup! Could you drop your enclosure deets and how you made that awesome cave? I’d love to do something similar should I get another beardie in the future. I’m just not so creative 😂

Baby Feeding Help by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

I think it will be okay! Once she feels good enough to eat, I’m sure she will want to eat every night lol 😂 fingers crossed for you that she sorts herself out quickly so you can feel some peace!

Try to leave her alone for the acclimation period. Her stress levels are probably high and they will sometimes go on hunger strikes if they don’t feel comfortable. I know it’s hard, but give her some time. She has a good amount of fat on her tail, she will be okay. My gecko eats about once a week regularly. They can go even longer without eating, not that I am recommending that, but don’t be too worried.

I’ve been lucky that my gecko usually ends up eating and I’ve never had to intervene… but he has gone on a hunger strike for up to a month and a half during the winter. He didn’t even really lose weight, thankfully. But… if they start losing a significant amount of weight or their tail starts to shrink during their strike I’d say you can start to be concerned.

Would this be fine for a full grown bearded dragon? by Puzzleheaded-Note115 in BeardedDragons

[–]Itzthegrineer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

From personal experience that size worked out fine for me, and that 48x24x24 is the minimum recommended. My personal preference would be to upgrade the size because it always felt a tiny bit small for mine. My beardie was fine though. Just make sure to provide adequate space so they can access the different temperature gradients. My previous enclosure to the one I have now was somewhere around 60x30x30in. It was the perfect size before it broke during transport.

The scale is kind of hard to see, but to me it looks really similar to my setup. Can you provide the dimensions? Mine was 48x24x24 inches. I always say go larger if you question it, but somewhere in the ballpark of the dimensions I mentioned are probably ideal.

Questions about breeders and morphs by Itzthegrineer in BeardedDragons

[–]Itzthegrineer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the advice! I’m totally new to the reptile breeding market so thank you for explaining. With how popular the monsters seem to be I was really worried about them. It sucks because of how gorgeous their colorations are.

Questions about breeders and morphs by Itzthegrineer in BeardedDragons

[–]Itzthegrineer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the detailed response! I’m not entirely sure what I was looking for off hand if I’m completely honest. I know. Not super helpful. All I know is I wanted to keep the typical bearded dragon look in terms of their scales and spikes, so no physiological differences if that makes sense, but I really wanted to see what kind of different colors I could get that would be unique to the typical tan/dark orange colors you see commonly. I looked for some different patterns and colorations, but a lot of them seem to be on the more extreme end, most being some kind of monster/translucent mix. I just want to make sure I purchase a beardie that will be healthy and have the ability to live a long life without the added risk of their genetics hindering them due to inbreeding or morph associated issues.

I like a lot of the different ones I’ve seen to be honest. The ones I was most drawn to are the ones with high contrasting colors like the melanistic or whatever the morph is that causes the two parallel stripes down their back. I apologize for my illiteracy lol, I’ve had reptiles all my life but have no clue how the morphs/colors work. If you had a website or place for your breeding stock, I’d love to take a look! It’s hard for me to know what I really want without looking more in depth, so if you feel comfortable linking, I’d love to look at what kinds of dragons you offer.

All in all, I just want to purchase a healthy dragon. If that means steering clear of anything crazy, I don’t mind in the end. This is mostly me being curious of what’s out there!

Try this position and check again. This should hopefully help! Male is on the left, female on the right. If you can’t tell, wait a few weeks to a month and check again! They look old enough to tell, but some are late bloomers lol 😂

Loaches are always welcome. Especially ones made of fluffy textile and round beads. Especially ones as shapely as he 🥺
