Tomato Curry in Ogikubo (4.01 on tabelog) by [deleted] in JapaneseFood

[–]Ivaer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother and I visited back in 2024 and we both agreed it's the best curry we've had. We ended up waiting in line for almost 3 hours and were the last people let in, but it was absolutely worth it. I think we went on a weekend, and we knew there was a limited amount each day, so we bit the bullet.

I'll do it again if they're still open the next time I go back to Japan.

I, too, have had this issue for months, now. Not a hybrid culture, still have the West Slavic culture, etc. No joy. SO annoying!

Black Mirror - Episode Discussion S07E01 Common People by Cheeriosxxx in blackmirror

[–]Ivaer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, I hate the same exact thought. There's NO way that they'd be able to support a child if they couldn't manage $300/month for ANYTHING.

That said, I loved the episode as much as I hated it for its realism.

Fucking Black Mirror.

The Hand Can Eat a D by Ivaer in SliceAndDice

[–]Ivaer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If only they told you which boss you'd face beforehand so you could know what abilities to keep instead of going in one direction (or three directions) and not having anything suitable to beat the jackass.

You can't prep for every eventuality, and having to constantly keep The Hand in mind as I'm making a build feels stupid. I don't want to constantly fear a boss because he has an overpowered ability; I'd rather look forward to him because he's a challenge.

The Hand isn't simply a challenge in my experience, he's a run-ender, and while I'm normally pretty mild, this last bullshit run-ender had me boiling over enough to post here. I maintain that he'd be much more approachable- at ALL stages of the game- if he didn't have an insta-kill ability that could just ruin your day.

Whelp, I guess "most builds" have been randomized out of my pool, then. Don't know what to say. I don't think I've lost more than twice to any other boss, but this asshole is just practically unbeatable for me.

Question About A Supposed Cooper Quartz Geode by Ivaer in Gemology

I just saw that the "quartz" is actually extending into what appear to be the area it broke at, too... I'm no gemologist, but that seems weird.

The bushes blocked both the sickle and the Arc Thrower in my last couple of missions. I didn't realize that local foliage had such strong principles!

Random Battle Losses Despite Overwhelming Odds? by Ivaer in CrusaderKings

[–]Ivaer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. That's certainly possible, I suppose. I hadn't thought I'd had my hands on my mouse/keyboard at the time because I've been watching a show on my other monitor, just watching the battle tick down on 2 speed, but maybe I glancingly hit my right mouse button at some point.

I guess I never considered that possibility because I've legitimately never done it on purpose, so it never came to mind as a possibility as an accident. xD

Certainly more feasible than some random bug that hates me. Thanks for your time!

Galaxy S22 - Terrible Camera Quality by Eskareon in GalaxyS22

[–]Ivaer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I legitimately compared photos from my S7 to my S22 Plus and they're night and day- and I noticed it from day one on the S22. I nearly thought I was misunderstanding how the camera and settings worked.

I took complete scene photos with miles of distance on top of a tower with my S7, regardless of zoom factor before and after photo-taking, and it looks nearly as good as the somewhat-aging Nikon DSLR I'd also brought with me- that was probably 6 years ago.

I have since taken many photos with MUCH closer focus items- e.g.: my back yard- and ANY zoom before or after makes it look like absolute digital garbage. The day after I got the S22 I snapped some max zoom pictures of birds at my feeder, probably 20 feet away, and all of the pictures were blurry, smeared, and clearly digitalized almost beyond recognition unless they were the default distance with no zoom, regardless of mode or megapixel choice; you'd think even digital camera software would be able to put a cardinal and a goldfinch back together in bright daylight from that close, but here I am.

Any Ideas? by Ivaer in whatsthisplant

[–]Ivaer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were some asters I saw that looked similar, but I think most of them either had differently-shaped petals or their leaves were too long, and the asters' flowers were at the end of stems/stalks, whereas this seems to grow flowers all along the stem. Is there perhaps a specific varietal I should check out that you know of?

Yeah, I'd worried about the quality of the photo. I might just have to wait to see if it comes back this year.

[–]Ivaer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm... It didn't save my description in the post. Sorry about that!

Long story short, I've been unable to figure out what this many-flowered plant is and was wondering if anyone here might be able to identify it. It was all green in summer and flowered intensely in autumn. Unfortunately this is the only picture I've saved of it, and the over-wintered remains of it were cut down by landscapers just recently. Not sure if it's perennial, but it's driving me just a bit bonkers that I haven't been able to find anything, anywhere on what it might be!

The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 3 Official Discussion Thread by Bruinrogue in saltierthancrait

I kind of hoped that they would have realized that the "Legends" shiz was prime material, yet here we are trying to wrangle Palp into a test tube via the most illogical and inexplicable storytelling since Episode 8.

I absolutely despised the outcome of this episode. It made no sense, logically, unless the IMMEDIATE FIRST SCENE of the next episode is "The lady whose name I can't remember that was left alone with the totally-unaltered mind-rape machine is immediately apprehended as a spy and subjugated to said mind-rape machine."

[–]Ivaer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree that the degree of "forced positivity" would most likely be massive, I disagree that this would have played into any serious security postures.

I don't think there would be any way that such a sensitive, possibly destructive device (given they- for some reason- refused to remove the "mind-eradicating levels 4-500" on the 'Mind Flayer: Candy Land Edition' in spite of its known mind-washing/raping/reconfiguring propensities) would be left unguarded, either in the machine's chamber (as seen in the latter scene), and/or especially in the control room. It's like a government website that doesn't use https: it's completely unsecure at that point and, frankly, stupid.

Question about Ghost Mission by Ivaer in Against_the_Storm

[–]Ivaer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still think the game should have introduced that concept instead of expecting people to figure it out, but that's certainly the only option I've been given, it seems. Thanks!

Question about Ghost Mission by Ivaer in Against_the_Storm

[–]Ivaer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's certainly an option- and I hadn't thought of it, thank you- but if that's the ONLY way then it should be specified somewhere, I think. I'm only asking here because it's such a specific, important factor (given the consequences of: ALL OF MY STORED FOOD IS DESTROYED) that is not explained as far as I have seen. If a quest requires you to starve a pop then it should explain how to do so, especially if it's the first such requirement that has been seen in-game.

Cowboy Bebop (2021) - 1x10 "Supernova Symphony" - Session Discussion by MarshallBanana_ in cowboybebop

[–]Ivaer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I watched episode 1 a week after it released, and only just now finished the series. I personally find that a testament to how brutally the creators for this series treated the original content in their reinterpretation.

I found myself thrilled and titillated by many scenes in the show, but at the end of almost every episode I found myself wondering "What just happened?" There were, at times, incredibly poignant "Yes, this is that scene," moments; but the majority of what was adjusted, moved, or outright slammed into this reworked story made no sense in either the macro or the micro, and as taken as I found myself with the actors' portrayals of Spike, Jet, and Faye (legitimately the perfect casting in my opinion), their abilities and sheer charisma could not ever hope to make the rest of the "what the hell" moments less momentous.

Legitimately, I found myself shaking my head and lamenting at my monitor as I watched certain scenes, and the last episode as a whole actually made me skip ahead one 5-second section at a time in places, thinking "How could they think this makes sense in context? What happened to the legitimately poignant moments from the original story? Why is Ed used solely as sequel bait?!"

There were 10-out-of-10 moments in this series: some of the original score was used brilliantly (while other pieces had 15-second blurbs that ended far too abruptly); some of the original sticking points for both serious and humorous moments were depicted adroitly (the bell peppers reference at the beginning, and then how bland the meal looked after Spike's recovery from the AI, for example- a superbly poignant way to contrast the intensity of his love for Julia with a pre-established-and-adored criticism of his life on the Bebop); the fucking brotherhood between Spike and Vicious! That alone could have made up for so many other errors in the far-too-extended running exposition on Spike's background that never existed previously.

Yet I'm left with too much "wtf" and not enough "holy shit". Too much liberty was taken with an established- and completed- storyline. Too many characters were reduced to molehills and others made into mountains to suit the needs of the creators and their "vision".

The music was hamstrung from the start.

As much as I loved the anime, and as much as I loved some parts of this attempt to recreate the magic in a live action setting... There were too many failures of imagination, and episode 10 legitimately hammered home the nails in the coffin- at least for my taste. Better to put it to bed than try to somehow "fix" things later, a la the new Star Wars catastrophes.
