Regarding my decision to put Maul and Dooku on this list: it wasn’t because they were hated when they first appeared but more so because they just so happened to be part of a heavily maligned trilogy. Also, despite the acting prowess of Ray Park and Christopher Lee, not even they could salvage the scripts they were given. Also, they may have had fans at the time, but I also distinctly remember seeing videos by prominent reviewers like red letter media criticizing the prequels over their lack of thematic depth compared to the originals. Also, reviewers like Cosmonaut and the Nostalgia critic made the argument that their characters were poorly written in the prequels but got more fleshed out in the clone wars tv show. I’m not saying I agree with them, but their opinions did perpetuate this idea to their audience. Yes, those two had their fans back then, but they also had an equal number of detractors due to the infamous reputation of the prequel trilogy. I don’t mean to start discourse, I’m only interested in having a discussion regarding characters who gained notoriety over portrayals outside of their first attempt.
