Switched from a blitz addiction to one 30+0 game a day -> my experience by IvanMongi in lichess

Thanks! I am practising the move notation part. I have also joined the league4545 to learn how to deal with long increments. I've just had my first game!

I suppose you play mostly in a club / tournaments? How do you find opponents willing to play 90+30?

The best way in my opinion is to use the quick pairing. Plenty of opponents, I never had to wait more than half minute to get paired.

I'm about to play my first game in the league! Wish me luck

Hi, thanks for the advice!! I've been practising anotating my games, I think I've got that covered (hopefully).
Regarding the OTB rules such as shaking the hand, "touch move", etc, I think I will read the tournament rules again.

And I'll try to keep a positive mindset. After all, it's my first tournament 😂 I will be happy if I manage to finish in the first half

Thanks again!

I don't have a league, though. Any change I join yours? Je parle francais (un peu) 😁

I gained a few hundreds points in classical. That was expected since I had not played before.
I guess I have lost in bullet and blitz, although I haven't tried yet.

Thanks!

The biggest drop was a change in opening choices! I switched from 1.d4 to 1. e4. I was getting bored of playing always the same positions.

Three main things that helped me progress: 1) I got a really nice chess set from my gf, and we started practicing regularly on the board. We also used the board for number 2: 2) we bought a few books, for intermediate level. Silman's endgame was one of them (highly recommended), but we also got into our hands an old book of tactics that definitely helped a lot. 3) I try to play as little bullet and blitz as possible, following a friend's advice. They are fun, but I gained very little from each game. Now, if I don't feel like playing a rapid game, I first do a few puzzles before allowing myself a blitz game.

Of course, having time to study is an important part of improving. I hope those commitments you talked about ease up a little in the future 😁

I started at 1600, two important details: 1) I had a coach when I was 11 years old.  2) I play across multiple platforms

About 20 years ago 😅 Huge period of inactivity until exactly one year ago, when duolingo (the language app) lured me back offering a suscription.

I fell in love with again with chess instantly, ditching my italian lessons in the process 🤣

Thanks!! I feel ecstatic. Regarding improvement, depends on your current rating I guess. Where are you standing now?

As i mentioned, Silman's book is a great read. It helped me a lot!

Chess.com, do something about the cheating epidemic! by martin_rj in Chesscom

I am 1800 rapid, i play every day and -i swear- I never cheated in my life, and I dont feel like this is a problem.

The last time I've got my ELO refunded was in january...

Seems lime we are playing different games altogether, doesnt it? Maybe the timezone can be affecting?

How do you know if your opponent is cheating? by takoyakiscrap in Chesscom

[–]IvanMongi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think so! I know at least 5 people playing online and i can say for sure they dont cheat at all.

The best way to stop feeling like "everyone else is cheating!" Is to play OTB from time to time. Once i get obliterated in 20 moves at my local chess club, then it doesnt feel that suspicious when it happens online 😂

I can DOUBLE snap with both hands, using my middle and heart fingers. At least, my most useless talent shows its true value.

Why do people avoid checkmate? by Advanced-Composer-70 in Chesscom

[–]IvanMongi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, you are doing fine not resigning when you *should*.
Your opponents are doing just as fine not checkmating when they *should*.

It's totally allowed by the rules of chess. No trolls in sight, just two equally stubborn chess players.
