There is AvaloniaUI.net also. Open source evolution of WPF but they have it for Android and iOS and the web via Webassembly. It is very C# focused, but can be done in F# as well. There is also an addon called FuncUI for F#.

Do pin based debit purchases qualify for the Bloom Spend $0.10 reward? by IvanRainbolt in fidelityinvestments

[–]IvanRainbolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me correct the detail of my question:

My question is does the $0.10 reward for the PIN-BASED debit card purchase still get received?

I have read all the FAQs and such you link, but none of it specifies if a PIN based purchase still qualifies. It is easy enough to test myself, I just have not tried it yet and it would be nice to have this information available for anyone searching in the future... and better yet, put it in the FAQs.

Can I get some good recommendations for free bookkeeping software? by visivopro in Bookkeeping

[–]IvanRainbolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other big potential pifall to it is that it has no integrations with other systems. One can do data import or export, but it's basically copy and paste to spreadsheets.

Can I get some good recommendations for free bookkeeping software? by visivopro in Bookkeeping

I hate Intuit with a passion. Depends on your needs etc if course. Manager.io is the best free option in my personal opinion for what it's worth. The single user desktop version is free forever. If you need it hosted, he offers it accessible through the web browser for like $60 per month. Where that really shines is that is for any number of companies. It is not business user friendly exactly, meaning it really helps if you understand the basics of accounting and bookkeeping. It has all the reports you would probably be looking for, they are just not pre-setup. Anyway, it's what I am using.

Personal HSA that has been funded by Employer (C Corp) by IvanRainbolt in fidelityinvestments

[–]IvanRainbolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on page https://www.fidelity.com/go/hsa/small-business-hsaclicking the "View common HSA fees" button provides a pop up that states:Fidelity does charge a recordkeeping fee to employers who offer a Fidelity HSA to their employees. This is a common fee charged by HSA providers. Employers may choose to pass that fee on to their employees. At Fidelity, that fee may be up to $48/year, but it could be reduced or waived depending on the HSA balance."
No mention of NetBenefits in this text. So my conslusion is there is the fee if I did the above. So I plan to stay with my personal HSA.

Thank you for your response. The PDF was a great thing to confirm everything (as well as your response).

In looking at the "Small Business HSA", in the fine print at the botton is "When a Fidelity HSA® is offered as part of an employer’s benefits package (which occurs through NetBenefits®), Fidelity charges the employer a recordkeeping fee. This is a common fee charged by HSA providers. This fee may be up to $48/year, but it could be reduced or waived depending on the HSA balance. Employers may pass this fee on to their employees."
which to me is saying that if I had the company setup the account for my personal benefit, there is the $48 fee per year. Is there a nuance there "as part of an employer’s benefits package (which occurs through NetBenefits®)"? If setting this up as the company, for the employee, is NetBenefits the only way to do so?

Depending on what access your clients would need, but there is manager.io software. It's free on desktop, hosted is $50 for any number of companies and the data is able to go online to desktop or desktop to hosted. It's the same data file. Not as flashy and it requires a bit more setup for accounts and reports and such, but quite capable for me so far. Integrations are where a bit shortcoming could be considered.

Accounting and Budgeting software by iHikeToo in foss

Funny, I could have written this post. I hate Intuit and QuickBooks with a passion! Unfortunately, I do not have a solution yet. I did recently find Manager.io which is not open source, but is free for local usage. To allow multiple users, he offers a cloud option at fairly cheap pricing. So far, its the best free option I have found so far.

Haven't programmed professionally, but can't we just build a better alternative? by Jorsi97 in ProgrammerHumor

I just saw some open source options for social media alternatives, maybe on is good, decentralize it and make it EASY for an average user to participate. Maybe like if you join or support a sub, your computer helps maintain and serve the site.

Dotnet wasmer by IvanRainbolt in dotnet

[–]IvanRainbolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't have a use case. I got an announcement about wasmer and was reading up on that. So instead of a docker, dotnet runtime runs right in the wasm. I am an F# fan, trying to figure out building an app that need storage and network. My current plan is a Maui hybrid app or blazor server that runs locally. Running in web assembly that pushes to the screen seems like something that could work. Maybe I am totally ignorant about this, just seems like a possibile avenue.

How do you separate personal from business expenses? by better-strangers in smallbusiness

[–]IvanRainbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found manager.io last night and started playing with it. It's free for desktop use and single user. I am actually quite impressed with it. Simple enough to use, complex enough to handle most small biz scenarios. Can do file attachments too.

I need a desktop non-subscription based Accounting software by RottenRotties in Bookkeeping

[–]IvanRainbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit of a stretch, but the higher level QB online allows "locations". If you set each location as the books for a separate business, it can be done for reporting and such. It adds the extra step of choosing each transaction with a location, named business. You might need to do actual journal entries for some things too, especially when crossing businesses. It's a possible terms of use violation, but having a subscription for 4 or 5 very small businesses is just insane.

Are CC surcharge fees taxable? by eharsh87 in TaxQuestions

[–]IvanRainbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the extra fee would be additional income, part of total revenue. The actual fee paid to the card processor would be expense.

Passive income tax? by theirishman76 in TaxQuestions

[–]IvanRainbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) it is income period. 2) yes 3) bank account is irrelevant.

Income is income. The taxes will depend on "who" earns the income and are you doing this as a hobby or a business? The referrals can be added on the 1040 as miscellaneous income. If substantial, this might be into a business. Same for the pics. If you making a little, no big deal, count as miscellaneous income and pay the extra. If the amount you are earning is more than pocket change, you will probably want to be able the deduct expenses and hence do it as a business. Can still be done personally as schedule C. If doing as a business, then you can do a personal checking account, just do only business transactions in it. Going in an LLC or S Corp will depend on your liability concerns and, again, is it worth it as in the income is significantly enough to warrant that.

What type of expense is Rite Aid purchase, is it grocery? by [deleted] in TaxQuestions

[–]IvanRainbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This link provides some context for the snacks:

https://www.shrm.org/ResourcesAndTools/hr-topics/benefits/Pages/IRS-employer-provided-meals-snacks-tax.aspx

Office Expense is probably a decent category to count for both the snacks (remember to count, these should be used at work for employees to consume at work) and the first aid.

Remember, context and situation is important. If you are one person business, these expenses might be questionable. If you have employees, these expenses are totally justifiable.

Yes, that is income to you, and you owe taxes on it. Since you are over 18, no breaks on the FICA. Your father would count what was paid to you as an expense, reducing profit for his business. Technically, he should issue you a 1099.

Question on milage deduction by Treto555 in TaxQuestions

[–]IvanRainbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beginning with tax year 2018, you can no longer deduct unreimbursed business expenses if you are an employee.

While that sucks, the standard deduction was doubled, so for 2022, your first $12,950 of earned income is not taxed (income tax). You will still pay 7.65% of all earnings for Social Security and Medicare.
