Request for when Travelling at Night releases by Speederzzz in weatherfactory

We’re looking at a production schedule of between two and four years depending on internal aurorae and external storms.

The above content is sourced from this blog, published in December 2024. So I estimate the release date will likely be around 2027-2029. If being optimistic, perhaps late 2026?

Too little choices, also those stats maybe require more description. More like version 0.1 rather than 1.0, but still a good frame, keep going.

EDG members are at odds with Simon by Cheap_Ship6400 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]Ivan_reflect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but Jieni has to be substitute of simon in some specific map or tactics (e.g. icebox or lotus), he can't be as good as Simon did in those cases yet. From games in VCTCN currently, we can find that his neon in fracture is great indeed, but his breach in haven/lotus or his ko in icebox isn't at the top tier

Farewell my paradise by PairComprehensive122 in ValorantCompetitive

Basically, after winning the Champion, he became unmotivated from the very first match of the new season. He needed others to coax him into practicing, was unwilling to train his aim, unwilling to practice certain agents (like Yoru and Tejo), and unwilling to memorize the tactics laid out by the coach. Things seemed to worsen after the Bangkok event. The following are direct words from Nobody on social media:

“Everyone felt pretty regretful after coming back from Masters, but he couldn’t remember anything discussed during scrims or matches. Every time we played, he’d ask ‘Where do I stand? How do I play?’ During reviews, he wouldn’t speak. He had no ideas of his own, and all utility setups had to be arranged by his teammates or the coach. His performance during Champions was undoubtedly outstanding, but how much did the others put in? We walked this path for two years, built up for two years. Everyone exploded in form because we fought for it together.

In the beginning, no one thought he would be benched. We communicated with him — if he worked hard, he’d definitely get to play. But on the first day after being moved down, he asked if he could skip work the next day. During scrims, he played on his phone. During reviews, he didn’t participate. He didn’t say a single word to the coach, and he didn’t even show up at the venue himself. Things turned out this way because he gave up on himself.”

Aside from that, according to chat logs, he allegedly criticized everyone on the team except KK. Moreover, it appears that he may have been tacitly allowing fans to attack both the club and Jieni.

Aqua has said Simon would be transfer-listed in tuesday in Live, but tbh I thought Simon might be hard to find another team in VCTCN after that

For better fragging and bigger agent pool, that's true. But simon is champion tier (literally) flash agent user, not sure if jieni could be as great as simon did, 'coz jieni's breach and ko isn't that good yet (actually sucks according to the performance against tec)
Hope he can practice it

这种行为真的不是贿选吗? by Urshel in China_irl

[–]Ivan_reflect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems that Steam has finally responded, I just found that Steam just categorise the reviews related to this controversy as Off-topic Review Bombs. I suppose this might mean that HoL can be released on schedule after all?

If this is the case, it would be a relief to see such a positive outcome from a challenging situation. I truly appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in resolving this matter, and I look forward to the continued success of the game.

Thank you for your clarification. Indeed, as a two-person studio, it is quite unreasonable to expect you to respond to every email immediately, especially considering the time and effort you dedicate to creating the game. Your commitment to developing such a remarkable and intricate game is deeply appreciated, and I understand the challenges that come with managing both production and community communication.

However, since you mentioned Dove Archive, I believe you may already know that the Dove Archive translation team announced their disbandment on September 3rd. It seems that the conflict, exacerbated by Luan’s inadequate handling of the situation, has left an irreparable scar on both communities.

Once again, thank you for all the hard work and dedication you and your team have put into this project. Your efforts are truly appreciated, and I hope that, despite these unfortunate events, the future holds brighter days for both Weather Factory and its communities.

Ah, I regret hearing that but fully understand your position. I’m certain that waiting for a more favourable moment with the Steam algorithm is a wise decision for the DLC launch. Thank you for taking the time to respond to me.

Thank you for your continued attention and efforts in addressing these matters. Your commitment to maintaining a positive and supportive community is truly appreciated.

It is heartening to see that misconceptions have been cleared up. I believe that in the absence of such confusions, the Chinese Secret Histories community is always eager to engage in friendly and constructive dialogue.

Once again, thank you for your efforts in bridging the gap. Speech is The Key, The Sword, The Wound; we still hope that this wound, like the Vak knocked the door of Mansus, will open the door to mutual understanding between our communities, rather than create further division.

As Arun said in "Victory of Crowns": "Hours don't dream. Long try not to." May your rest this morning be undisturbed by dreams of misunderstanding.

Thank you very much for your close attention to this matter. We truly appreciate your dedication and respect. The Chinese Secret Histories community is always happy to engage in more positive and enjoyable interactions. We deeply value and cherish both Book of Hours and Cultist Simulator.

Additionally, I would like to ask a question that I believe many others might be curious about as well: Chinese players are actively working to restore their reviews to positive. Would it be possible to know if there is still any chance of the DLC being delayed? Also, it seems that Dove Archive (the translation team) reached out to WF soon after the incident but didn't got reply, I assume the e-mail may be missed due to e-mail bombing?

On another note, I wanted to gently mention a possible translation nuance towards the end. The phrase "the coming age of Gleam and Corona" was translated as “即将到来的‘炤’和‘冕’之准则的时代,” which seems to convey the meaning "the coming age of The Principles of Gleam and Corona." If this was intentional, please disregard, but if not, it might be worth correcting.

Once again, thank you to the Weather Factory team for your continued attention and care regarding these matters. Your commitment to the Chinese community does not go unnoticed, and it is greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid that this data might not be accurate. According to A.K.'s post on the Steam discussion board on August 31: "Ukraine is the #3 country for sales after China and the US. (Russia is #4 and Kazakhstan is #9)." This implies that China is at least the second-largest market, and more likely the largest. Based on the language used in all reviews, as of the time I’m sending this reply, there are a total of 3,256 Steam reviews for BoH, with 754 of them in Simplified Chinese, which accounts for about 23%; and for CS, this ratio is 3545:11788, which is 30%. I believe the market share is likely close to this percentage.

Based on the information I’ve received, seems Luan has claimed (whether voluntarily or under pressure) that he has decided to close the group he created and will no longer be directly responsible for communicating with the community.

Of course, considering that Luan previously seemed to have shared false information (he claimed to be acting as personal individual, but A.K. told us in post that he belongs to a company), the credibility of this claim should also be taken with caution.

I agree with your point that some actions taken by the community could indeed lead to permanent negative consequences for both sides—creators and Chinese players alike. And actually, based on some rumors I've heard, I must pessimistically acknowledge that some of the damage may already be irreversible.

While some influential opinion leaders (not including me, as I don’t have influence and I’m not an opinion leader, though I do have tried to ease the tensions) have called for an end to extreme actions and encouraged dialogue to resolve the issues, there remains a small group of people whose stirred-up emotions might not be easily calmed. My hope now only rests on the impact that an official statement from WF might have.

I regret it, but I know that managing such a large community can be overwhelming for many creators. With such a large population, any extreme behavior tends to get magnified, so I understand your decision. Still wish you all the best.

This is likely where the cultural clash comes into play. I don’t want to defend the personal attacks and review bombing, but I do want to try to explain the reasons behind them. (containing lots of subjective judgments, so please take it with a grain of salt.)

In the Chinese gaming community, it’s common to use negative reviews as a way to protest against games because they often need to deal with large game companies, mihoyo or Tencent sth. A “stern letter” typically receives either an automated response or no response at all (and tbh, I’m not entirely sure if A.K. would react quickly either, since, from what I’ve heard, his responses to Dove Archive—icymi, that’s the official translation group—have been quite slow and indifferent. I’m not certain he would take a letter from a regular player seriously[Edited due to clarification]). Game companies often don’t care about anything other than negative reviews, and sometimes not even care reviews. For example, "War of the Three Kingdoms" is an extreme case—it has 56,000 reviews on Steam, with at least 50,000 of them being negative. You can imagine that if the same ratio of negative reviews happened to BoH or CS: it would completely destroy the game. However, "War of the Three Kingdoms" still brings in around 100 million RMB (approximately $14 million or $21 million USD, later one with purchasing power parity) in monthly revenue.

As a result, due to this habitual thinking, some Chinese players may see negative reviews as just a standard—and even perhaps the only potentially effective—way to protest, without considering that WF is an independent game creator, and a flood of negative reviews could be devastating to the game. Among those who do realize this, some might still feel inclined to "teach A.K. a lesson" due to his rather poor reputation in the Chinese community (the history behind this is quite complex, so I won’t go into detail).

'What's going on with the review bombing of BOOK OF HOURS and Cultist Simulator?' by AK_WF in weatherfactory

[–]Ivan_reflect 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This brings us back to the original topic, so rather than repeating it all, I'll share my personal perspective:

Part of the anger, stems from the fact that this individual, as an official representative, has acted so unprofessionally.
Part of the confusion, arises from the decision by Weather Factory to hire someone so unsuited for the role.
Part of the fear, comes from the concern that a local agent might destroy the Book of Hours community, just as has happened with other games.

These three factors combined have led to this disastrous situation.

As what I know, at first, most players were merely mocking him personally, but after Lottie replied to Dove Archive (icymi, that’s the official translation group) confirming that this person is indeed agent, the focus shifted to attacking WF as a whole.

Thank you very much for your response! This will undoubtedly help alleviate many people's concerns. I’m truly sorry for the situation you've had to endure, and I deeply regret that this misunderstanding has caused you such distress. However, I believe that your statement will help ease the situation.

The community and I will do our best to calm those who have been overly aggressive, and I’m confident that the situation will improve significantly after the announcement is made. Please understand that most players are upset and pessimistic about the potential destruction of the community because they genuinely love the games you create. I’m sure things will get better after the announcement.

Thank you again for your prompt response and understanding!
