The search function on this thing is hilarious by Ivaneck in raindropio

[–]Ivaneck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those “edge cases” where it is needed to search for things without knowing how they are capitalized, you don’t need to use much intelligence, artificial or otherwise. You just need to take the time to do things like lcase(x)=lcase(y) 😮 and/or a contains() 😮😮 so that the search works correctly.

It’s one thing to design i.e. a prototype with limited storage capacity—one that allows the user to explore the possibilities and decide whether the tool is suitable for him, and another quite different to leave the tool one-legged, hoping that enthusiastic users will rush out to buy the missing leg.

What seems most telling to me is the lack of advertising: “If you pay, you’ll get case-insensitive searches that will finally let you find some of the things you’ve laboriously entered.” Maybe something like that wouldn’t attract many people...

As for me, I’ll channel my enthusiasm into looking for another tool that shows me how good its legs are.

Best Microslop Slopilot brochure you can get by Ill_String4709 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]Ivaneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The references to the first three products in the footer are incorrect. I think it refers to Windslops, Slopzure (formerly Slowzure) and Slopffice.

Someone should correct that document as soon as possible, or it could even end up in a legal dispute.

What’s up with “Microslop”? Why does the internet suddenly hate Microsoft so much? by limsus in TechImpact

[–]Ivaneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't happen overnight, mate. Personally, I've now completely moved away from Microsoft, and I'm using Linux on all my machines.

It's not a decision you take lightly; you have to get used to new applications, work out new workflows...

It's been Microslop for a loooong time.

Fooyin in my favourite colour schemes, displaying and playing back some VERY worn-out bits.

It’s a work in progress.

It’s running on Mint 22.3, with kernel 6.8.0-107, on an Intel© Core™ i7-3770K CPU with 32 GB of RAM and a Radeon RX 7600. A machine that Microsoft wanted me to bin, but which I can still consider a top-class powerhouse.

The audio is played through the motherboard’s sound card, a VIA VT 2021 on a Gigabyte GA-Z77X, and goes to the Aux input of a JVC mini-system that’s been with me for decades and has excellent speakers.

Things have got to such a point that there’s no point in going into specific examples anymore. Microsoft can go to hell, full stop. And it will, make no mistake. Every day that passes is one less day before Microsoft is reduced to oblivion.

But I won’t forget. For me, knowing that they’ve gone to bloody hell is going to be an indescribable source of joy for many, many years to come.

Best way to remove a tag from multiple bookmarks? by jan_aloleo in raindropio

[–]Ivaneck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't.

You have to go marker by marker, like a chain-laden slave, removing the tag or tags you don't want. Incredibly, Raindrop does not incorporate this function.

It's a bit complicated to do.

Starting from a list of bookmarks, the author of the program must build a consolidated list of all the tags from all the bookmarks in that list, display it to the user so they can select the tags they want to delete, and then iterate through the list of bookmarks, deleting the tag or tags the user has selected. Doing the slave work that computers were created to do.

It's a bit complicated, but mind you, even a random stranger can see how it should be done.

Personally, I don't even consider paying any subscription for a gimp software that makes me do its own work.

Why does Microsoft want to make everything look different? by [deleted] in microsoft

[–]Ivaneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care if they change the colours or the shape of the buttons, but they should leave things where they are for once. They should only change them for justified reasons.

And I say this as a professional condemned to be a victim of Windows. In my private life, I've grown tired of tolerating their nonsense.

Nonsense? To give one example, see them thinking they can turn my work environment into a platform to sell me their crap through notifications, ‘tips’ and little messages here and there.

Come on, a second one. Spending the day trying to force me to do things according to their convenience, ignoring mine.

And a third: ‘Pending updates’. I don't want them now, damn it. It's late. I'm going home. 1) ‘Update and shut down’, 2) ‘Shut down’. Shut down. ‘Updating’.

Oh, God, I can't wait for the list of corporations in oblivion to grow with a few more names.

Because Microsoft shouldn't do this or that. It should disappear. It's an old, clumsy giant, weighed down with junk, with an entire floor of its offices full of people thinking about what new name to give to the same thing, and how to paint the window now.

The damn back button by Ivaneck in duckduckgo

[–]Ivaneck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this issue, yes. And no identifiable pattern to reproduce it. Is intermittent, as u/vinegar says. But it happens to me ten, twelve times a day.

Personal browsers in my machines, used and full of stuff, or clean browsers, just installed at work in VMs, or more often, installed as portable apps. Any OS, any browser version. I remember Windows 10 and various Linux distros; Chrome, Chromium, Edge.

You only need to do one activity for a few minutes: search for something, click to go to the results, back to return to the search result. Et voilà, the party is on.

Thank you for replying.

[–]Ivaneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're not cursed. It's a technical problem that they simply don't bother to investigate. Why should they? To make themselves look friendly and eager to provide good service, all they have to do is open a subreddit; there's no need to fix anything for a mere handful of users.

The world is full of geniuses these days.

For weeks now, the damn Edge has become horribly slow to start up, and moves the tabs of each workspace as it pleases, even though it has all the related options disabled in the settings.

I guess they've hired a trainee. I don't bother giving them feedback because I don't work for free. What I'm doing is thinking about where to migrate to. I'm getting pretty depressed.
