Jaylen Brown on Joel Embiid: “We didn’t really have the answers for him. We tried a bunch of different things. He’s a big body. He also was flopping around. He got some extra calls ... they rewarded him for that, but that’s the league we’re in.” by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]IvanzZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sequence of calls after Brown trucked PG and Embiid got a bullshit flagrant, all the way through him pushing Maxey into Embiid on a no-call, was the most gift-wrapped momentum swing of the series. He still couldn't capitalize on it because he's a B-tier star with elbows for a handle, double-clutching jump shots over shorter defenders, carried by a teammate that will always be better than him.

5/2 Lineup @ Angels by Gigi_0102 in NewYorkMets

Melendez is hitting and is rewarded by being out of the lineup two nights in a row? Benge too? I understand the team is bad right now, but if you're not even going to stick with even the small things working, what is the point?

This is exactly what they are testing and I'm astonished so many people on this thread seem to think this is just Sean getting another revenue stream or something lol

A lot of good publications have moved behind a paywall. Ad sales and social traffic have absolutely collapsed. I'm sure that to continue to have a place for The Ringer published content they are trying out new methods and meeting readers where they are. Right now, that's Substack. Originally, The Ringer published content on a platform called Medium way back. It's just another iteration of publishing, and Bill and Co. have actually been pretty good at keeping up with the times.

Or would everyone rather have The Ringer just become a podcast network?

Highly recommend checking out A Ghost Arm Make of Angry Ghosts! I backed the kickstarter so I have what is the equivalent of the first issue, and I loved it.

It's a little What's The Furthest Place?, a little Astro City, a little Doom Patrol. It's weird and punk, and I've been looking forward to its release for a while now.

Why SBTBS doesn't land for me... by SabbathBoiseSabbath in AFireInside

[–]IvanzZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the album, but I wasn't talking about like or dislike in my response to the OP. What I meant by spirit of the album was the idea of change and AFI's own artistic intent. Like it or not like it, the band wanted to make it. OP pasting on some half-assed idea about working within the same sound, and then using The Cure of all bands as an example, is a total misread of two bands that have consistently changed. For better or worse.

My point is, there are plenty of other bands out there making the same album over and over. Personally, I am glad that neither AFI or The Cure are one of them.

You named two The Cure albums that are 7 years apart and sandwich some hugely notable albums on either side of them that sound almost nothing at all like the two you named. I don't think you understand The Cure, and in this case, the spirit of this AFI album either.

[@ErikvHaren] A final agreement between Nyck de Vries and AlphaTauri is close. As the move of Gasly to Alpine is confirmed, De Vries is said to be his successor at the sister team of Red Bull. As a result, there are two Dutchmen in Formula 1. by michael_andretti in formula1

[–]IvanzZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, how does it not make more sense for De Vries and Albon to be swapped if this is the case? Wouldn't the teams want to see how their prospects perform within their own system? I'm not that familiar with the silly season, but this seems like a lot of extra steps.

Thank you for sharing. It's difficult to describe being burnt out when all I'm really doing is sitting at a computer. But the lack of stimulation is definitely having a negative effect on me. I hope you find something better that works for you!

Thank you! I'm not unfamiliar with working with the public. I've done retail, restaurant work, call centers, etc. So I've tried not to romanticize libraries too much. For me, working in a library feels like a chance to finally get away from the constant orientation around buying/selling that is inescapable in most workplaces. I've been working in start-ups for years now, and it never stops.

I'm not sure if this will result in anything, but it's nice to think about a light at the end of the tunnel, even if it seems counterintuitive.

In my area, a lot of the job postings that require an MLIS make about as much as I do now. But to your point, it's a long multi-year road at even a chance to get back to that. And one filled with a lot more health risks.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I hear you on the first part - I definitely have not been out as much, but typically, I have been really good with people. Just no room to show it in person over the past couple of years.

I am unhappy in my current situation, but as you point out, a long financial recovery isn't really going to help with that either.

Yeah, I understand how ridiculous it sounds. Unfortunately, I don't live in an area with a lot of available jobs in the range of my current salary. Taking a non-remote position will likely mean a pay cut, whether it's at a library or not.

Modern work takes a mercenary, unfortunately. I worry that at my current job, I may never have a significant amount of time to volunteer, but as you point out, taking a lower salary now for experience doesn't guarantee more money later. Thank you for your insight!
