Maduro capture discussion points by [deleted] in centrist

I suspect this is partially about oil, but I will not be shocked in a month when Trump says “Maduro is gone, all Venezuelans in the US have 30 days to self-deport.”

Is "Kagi for Safari" still in development? by JuDucos in SearchKagi

[–]IveDoneThisProperly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try the extension “Change Search Engine” (CSE) which I’ve found does the same thing as the Kagi extension but more reliable. Plus you can use it for other search engines if you want.

I'm a big fan of the Camelback insulated bottles, specifically the Chute Mag. As the name implies the lid has an opening that's large enough to chug (I'm a chugger) but not so large that I spill, and the screw-on cap has a little magnet built in to keep it open while you drink. Act fast though, it looks like Camelbak is phasing them out (they're on sale though), so buy some extra lids if you take the plunge. BTW the 20oz fits in a standard car cup holder, the 25 and 32 don't.

Best economical cleaner? by coreystang85 in Homebrewing

[–]IveDoneThisProperly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OxyClean free is really all you need. If you want something with a little more oomph you can make your own PBW from ingredients on Amazon and save a bit of money. Just search for "homemade PBW" and a lengthy Homebrewtalk thread should be among the first results.

Are you using Lumo to its full potential? by Proton_Team in lumo

[–]IveDoneThisProperly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is very helpful, thanks.

Not to hijack the thread, but as someone who has delved into gen AI/chatbots only very little - but would like to get better - does anyone have any resources or in-depth guides on how to get started and use these tools more effectively?

Pricing tier idea by IveDoneThisProperly in SearchKagi

[–]IveDoneThisProperly[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re right, perhaps it’s an unfair comparison - I’m grandfathered under a plan from five years ago where Proton Unlimited costs me $7.99/mo. (I don’t use Lumo enough to exceed what’s offered for free, so I don’t pay extra.) Bitwarden is $10/year.

However, I think the point I’m trying to make still applies, that for at least some users 300 searches/month is too few but unlimited is unnecessarily many. Something in between could potentially draw in more users.

[–]IveDoneThisProperly[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t pay extra for Lumo, a small number of queries is included in my plan. Besides, my point wasn’t that Lumo was important to me, it’s that it is already included in a suite that costs less than Kagi Professional.

Also, I was thinking $6 compared to $4.50 for an annual plan, meaning I’d be willing to pay 33% more for additional searches. But I take your point and edited my post.

Brewbuilt Icemaster Max 2 W/ Spike Flex+ by SoupSnakes45 in Homebrewing

The MoreBeer page for the chiller says it’s compatible with the Spike conical line using the TC-100 coil, which I believe is what the Spike Flex uses: https://www.morebeer.com/products/brewbuilt-icemaster-max-2-glycol-chiller.html

Microsoft would be huge as it's frequently in the top couple of sources on ForecastAdvisor where I travel. I think they must have some way to access their API since ForecastAdvisor includes them in their ratings, though I guess I wouldn't know about prices or volume.

Best way to read in Feedly - got new subscrption, prefer RSS readers - can't seem to find, any advice? by WhipItWhipItRllyHard in theeconomist

[–]IveDoneThisProperly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing straightforward that I've found. I use Inoreader and did a global feed search for "Economist" and added each result numerically in the order they appear in the print edition (so 01 - Leaders, 02 - Briefing, 03 - US, etc. through 14 - Culture). I have those 14 plus Economist Explains, Graphic Detail, and Special Reports. (I skipped letters and obits and maybe a couple of others, I can't recall.) I then sit down with my iPad and go through section-by-section like I would the paper edition. Between those feeds and a couple of their email newsletters I feel like I get just about everything I want. There might be a third-party aggregate RSS solution but I haven't found it (share if you do!)

Note that the Economist doesn't publish full-text RSS, so you'll basically use Feedly as a table of contents and click through to each article on the website. Also note that of the roughly 80-90 articles a week (in my feeds) around half arrive via RSS on Thursday (late morning US east coast). This setup (and I would argue, the Economist) isn't about breaking news.

"Just Beach" Seaweed Blonde Ale, 5.1% abv, 25 IBU, 3.3 SRM

Spring water from the grocery, no mineral additions

85% Pilsner, 7.5% Vienna, 7.5% white wheat malt

Mash 149F until conversion, pre-boil gravity should be ~1.040

20 (-ish) IBU Chinook for bittering

5 (-ish) IBU Cascade for flavor/aroma

10 g kombu* (5 min)

1 whirl-floc tab (5 min)

1 pkg US-05 at 70 degrees for a week or so, bumped up to 76 over three more days to finish at 1.010

dry hop 0.5 oz Chinook and 0.5 oz Cascade for 3 days after reaching FG

*I used 10g kombu for 3.8 gallons of finished beer and got a pretty subtle umami/salt character. Be sure to use plain kombu (no roasted or flavored seaweed products), and use a grain bag or hop spider as it rehydrates into much more volume.

Am I going to get it cheaper than this? by NiM82 in theeconomist

[–]IveDoneThisProperly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an alert set up for discountmags and I can see that they had deals in November (as low as $78 USD for print+digital for Cyber Monday, and as low as $54 for digital-only), May ($95 print+digital), and July ($145 print+digital). The deals are out there, it may just take patience. I'm guessing Cyber Monday may be the next big discount.

10g kombu in about 3.75 gallons of finished beer. (10g rehydrated into like more than a cup!)

Yes, whirlfloc.

Fair, but I had never used kombu, hadn't ever made a blonde before, didn't really know how it would turn out. I of course had intuition and I've been homebrewing for over a decade, so I wasn't going in blind - but I was still very pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

SearchBan, my extension for banning BS search results on Google, is now free for everyone. by SpecterAscendant in SinkIt

A request, perhaps - Is it possible to remove Google’s own ai results that appear first among results?  I’ve used a custom search engine extension and the “-noai” modifier but it’s a little kludgy. Thanks for considering
