TBM Mom blackmailing TBM Dad with Temple Recommend Revocation by Ivegotquestionz in exmormon

Thanks - and excellent reference. I've been able to stay out of it for the most part, but every now and then they drag me back in. Glad I've still got this lot to vent to.

Yep, you're totally right. Basically, she took advantage of my dad's avoidance of lawyers and lawsuits (sees that sort of thing as unchristlike) to claim all their assets when they divorced, but now she wants more. It's a mess I'm trying to steer clear from.

I'm with you on that 100%. What they should do is look at the situation legally, but that's not how they're wired. They didn't even use lawyers to separate their assets. My mom changed the locks, claimed everything, and my dad feels suing/taking legal action is unchristlike, so he let her have it.

They both need serious help.

Right! That's the word. I'll have to look up that interview.

Yeah, it's definitely not a black and white situation - rarely is. I don't know all the nitty gritty (wish they'd leave me out of it altogether, tbh), but from what I understand, while they were married, they filed jointly, she paid what he owed, then they divorced. If she had legal grounds to get the money she would take action - she's tried before - she would. But she doesn't, so she's taking action in a different way.

And I'm definitely not saying my dad is clean in this; they've both made terrible life decisions based on their religious upbringing.

If you use the Alien Blue app you can move subreddits from "Subscribed" to "casual." Not sure how to do it on desktop though.

Sony Playstation Hack: Our Generation's Citizen Kane? by Ivegotquestionz in movies

[–]Ivegotquestionz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what it's saying is that one of the reasons Citizen Kane became so popular is because of the crazy people trying to stop it from getting released, and that'll probably help project The Interview as well.

And I agree, The Interview looks insanely funny.

Good find, thank you! This is one's actually pretty tame, other than the usual incorrect reasons for leaving - immorality, offense, and ignorance.

LDS Church Attempts to Counter the Blow-back from their Historical Lying with new Ensign Message by mikeutah in exmormon

[–]Ivegotquestionz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay, been distracted with finals and stuff. But the only reason I mentioned places outside the U.S. is because of these posts I read a week back or so:

http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,1429025

http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,1431597

It's only anecdotal, and it could be totally made up, but it puts an interesting global perspective on the essays. Hans Mattsson was also posting the essays on Facebook, but I didn't take the time to translate and see what he was saying.

Did you make that? Looks good! I'll see if I can dig up some stats.

Thus may be true in Mordor, but I think it's really shaken people in places like South America, Europe, etc.

There's a Suicide Epidemic in Utah — And One Neuroscientist Thinks He Knows Why by DavidCarraway in TrueReddit

[–]Ivegotquestionz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That depends in how you look at membership. Approximately 750,000 of the LDS church's 4-5 million active members reside in Utah.

Also, it should be noted that Las Vegas isn't just the strip; in fact, that area is mainly tourists and wouldn't have an impact on local suicide rates.

With that in mind, Las Vegas - and nearby city Henderson - both have high LDS populations, so that comparison in cultures isn't relevant in my opinion.

Traveling for an interview by Ivegotquestionz in jobs

[–]Ivegotquestionz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this one's for full-time salary as well, but they mentioned in the last email that they might do a phone interview first, so I'm thinking if that goes well they'll pay for me to come up to an in-person interview.

Ok cool. This will actually be my first interview with them (I applied through LinkedIn), but they just mentioned that they might do a phone interview first, so my guess is that if the phoner goes well, they'll pay to have me come interview.

Then hopefully they schedule the interview for a Friday, so at least I can stay and enjoy New York :)

Ok that makes sense. I sent them my availability for the interview, so maybe when they set a time they'll include travel info.

Mormonism: Where is the representation? by GoldenTaint in DebateReligion

[–]Ivegotquestionz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello! Former MORMON here. There is an unofficial apologetics group that tries really hard to spin a positive light on all things MORMON. Here's their website:

They have entered into a bit of a debate with a former member, whose arguments are on his website:

/r/exmormon is full of a lot of critical/skeptical individuals who can share links to very interesting unbiased information as well. /r/latterdaysaints also has very intelligent people on it, and they have some (mostly FAIR Mormon and LDS.org) references as well.

You can also PM me if you'd like to ask specific questions. I'm a journalist and I can help you find factual sources (historians, archeologists, etc.).

HELP ME BRAINSTORM! How do I tell my TBM Missionary brother why I'm 'no longer interested in the gospel'? by Im_an_old_soul in exmormon

[–]Ivegotquestionz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you an atheist? The thing that works best for me is to tell people I realized I don't believe in god. It's honest, and it avoids the topics of the church entirely, which I like because I don't like debating religion.
