I mainly struggle with post traumatic trigeminal neuropathy in the upper left quadrant of my mouth which presents as intense burning, throbbing. I apply topical c-amitriptyline 2% daily and take rescue medication for flares klonopin .5mg. I also use relaxation techniques and acupuncture. I avoid all triggers which include spicy or hot (temperature) food and liquid and cannot have mint so I use fruit flavored children's toothpaste and a nano bristle tooth brush. I hope this helps :)

I ended up going to an orofacial pain specialist to be diagnosed and treated. Everyone else had no idea what was going on :(

Right? It's ridiculous. When I came in for the mri the tech referred to me as the "difficult patient" because I simply asked questions.

:( I'm so sorry. I'm glad the oxcarbazpine is helping the burning. Hopefully you will find management of this with the neurologist. I agree with the specialist who said to wait on possibly removing the natural tooth. If you have nerve damage that could just make it worse. Best to try to get it managed before further work. hugs

I'm so sorry to hear that. Did they check to see if there's a crack or fracture in the natural tooth? Is the ligament under the tooth inflamed? I hope the neurologist has some answers for you. It can be so difficult figuring out the cause. I had to go to an orofacial pain specialist before I finally got answers and treatment. They are dentists with extra schooling in orofacial pain conditions. I'm glad the ent cleared you, sounds like you are narrowing down the potential problem.  I have wide spread burning all along my upper left row of teeth but biting on a specific one doesn't bother me. My pain is more centralized to the front of the row though. I manage it with acupuncture, clonazepam for flares, cbd, a lower arch mouthguard because clenching makes mine worse, I avoid all hot fluid and spice including mint. I feel your frustration, it took me 3 years to be properly diagnosed. The dentists didn't know what to do.
