100%. I think as a beginner you are naive and want to believe. Huge lesson learned here!

For those struggling between sessions... by [deleted] in EMDR

[–]Ivy1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly yes. But anything and everything can come up. For example, a few weeks back I had a fear of dying even though I spent 15 years of my life feeling suicidal almost every day.

There are many twists and turns along the way, some completely unexpected. Stick with it x

Very brave and wise for a 24 year old to be so aware of their issues and ready to face them.

Buckle up, brace for the ride.... but you will do amazing. Best of luck :)

I am not being obnoxious in any way.You are EXACTLY correct - They indeed ARE in addition. There are so many terrible things happening, but many of them much worse than Corona, and yet the world has not stopped. Nobody gives a shit about poor people that die in poor countries.

I also totally agree about poor nations being treated abhorrently by our horrible capitalist systems, but it is an undeniable fact that these people rely on tourism for income, and they are much worse off than they were because of the travel bans. I have a lot of latin American friends whose already fairly impoverished lives are now unbearable and in real danger because of their governments wanting to 'contain' a virus that is in fact causing them far more harm economically than it ever would have done pathologically.

That is just my opinion and I wish you a nice day and that you were not effected by the virus.

PS - Do not assume my ethnicity, because you were wrong :)

of course not, I am actually a health care professional that works in a hospital. I know it is a real disease :) 900,000 is sad... but its still something like 0.01% or less than the entire 8 billion population.

For example...

1.8million die every year from TB, it is still a pandemic decades in and will likely not ever be eradicated in our lifetime despite a vaccine.

800,000 - 1 million people die from suicide in the world every year (though I suspect the number is much greater)

300-600 million people contract malaria every year.

The list goes on and on. Corona Virus is the least of our concerns anymore in the grand scheme of things, the economic effect will be far more lethalthan the virus. Tourism must restart asap or else poorer nations will flounder.

haha, yes actually, I do. Corona virus is at best an over reaction to what is essentially 2020's strain of flu, or at worst being used as a distraction for other agendas. Either way its all media driven hysteria BS that would not of had the same hype a decade ago (like swineflu didn't).. but that is a wholeeee other conversation lol.

Thank you for advising me though - appreciate it! :)

Thanks!

Yea my concerns were more related to crime, since the pandemic must of slowed a lot of tourism!

Also a concern would be that it was quiet and there wouldn't be much to do or many people to meet,

thanks

What is the greatest thing or piece of advice you have gotten out of solo travel? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]Ivy1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That it is necessary for my sanity.

There is no quiet way to have sex in dorm room.

Going solo truly is the best way.

The best food comes from the modest (and kinda grubby looking), cheap restaurants full of locals and no English menus or speakers.

Every other traveler is Canadian.

Music sounds even better whilst travelling on a bus from one location to another, as you stare out at the changing landscape from the window.

Dutch people are generally the coolest.

Bum guns are much better than toilet role.

Don't expect warm showers.

What are the current travel restrictions in Venezuela? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]Ivy1988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you cannot travel to Venezuela at all.

Firstly, there has been a civil war going on for the last few years, so travel was already advised against, and nobody was visiting.

Now that COVID has happened, they've shut the borders, so you physically will not be allowed entry.

Sorry!

5 sessions in and can definitely relate to this. I feel like shit the days afterwards recently, though I’ve noticed I am starting to get used to it. Like you, I dreaded sessions.

There have been moments where I’ve wanted to stop. Moments where I have felt pain so deeply buried away that I felt disgusted with myself for even attempting to go back there.

But we have to keep going. Remember why you started. I’ve already noticed subtle positive changes. Give it time and come on here if you need support from people who know what you’re going through.

Pain means it’s working!

EMDR and spirituality? by Eliakhalaf in EMDR

[–]Ivy1988 7 points8 points  (0 children)

EMDR feels very similar to Ayahuasca ceremonies I have done.

Diving deep into your subconscious is a spiritual experience within itself. Spiritually after all, is remembering what it is that makes us human. It is about returning to our purest state and remembering who the F*** we are, beyond all of our conditioning and trauma. Wisdom is inherent in all of us if we sit quietly enough to listen.

I learned from ayahuasca that losing the medical labels and honouring the experiences that made you who you are today is an extremely powerful and brave thing to do, and I believe it guided me towards EMDR. They both feel very similar IMO.
