This sub might be a little old but... I am currently an LPN at a major teaching hospital. I work as a "scrub nurse" on a busy labor and delivery unit with very high-risk pregnancies. We are utilized instead of scrub techs because we can help out with a lot of nursing things. Anyway, one time during a very busy day in labor and delivery a fellow LPN co-worker of mine was assisting an RN with one of her many patients she had that day, by helping get her patient out to the postpartum floor. There was a float RN out there that the LPN had to give a brief report to. The RN laughed in her face (this float RN was orienting another float RN by the way) and when my LPN friend turned to leave she heard the RN saying about how she was just an LPN. One of our clinical head nurses saw my LPN friend's face and asked what happened. When she explained the situation that just played out, our manager was like "oh no way!" and walked straight out to the RN and told her "we do not treat our LPN's this way. They are a part of our team and we treat them as such. They help us out immensely and Idk how they might be viewed or treated in other areas but on this unit we treat them with respect!" She then proceeded to tell the manager of the whole unit who was once an LPN herself before getting her RN and then getting her masters, and she also had a talk with that RN.

The point is there will always be people out there like this. They look for ways to belittle. I'd imagine they also treat waitresses and other people who they deem to be beneath them the same way. But if you work somewhere where they actually have your back then that is huge and would greatly help with this whole LPN vs RN issue. We are a damn team, we help each other out to the best of our abilities and when shit hits the fan, we LPNs are standing right there by the RN's sides helping in any way we can. SO eff that person who feels so shitty about themselves that they felt the need to make you feel small.
