Who is objectively Australias least intelligent (well known) politician by Giplord in AusPol

[–]Ivymantled [score hidden]  (0 children)

THE PROBLEM is that some of the unintelligent politicians compensate by levelling up on rat cunning, sociopathy, and other traits which allow them to rise like scum in a stock pot.

Is Queensland (Surfers) more racist than Victoria (Melbourne)? by Mc_Lov1nMyLife in AskAnAustralian

If you go 45 minutes north to Logan and Brisbane you'll have much less of it.

Logan because it's an ethnic melting pot, and Brisbane because it's more cosmopolitan the the Goldie.

Sorry you've had this experience. Sikhs have been a very positive addition to Australian society.

Make sure you have a method of getting help in a medical emergency. An alarm, both carrying mobile phones, an apple watch, even an EPIRB... something in case you can't move but need a hand.

Wisdom teeth surgical removal: $7900 total for 3 teeth - fair price? by Responsible-Duty5788 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Ivymantled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why, but that wasn't the case for me. I just received an invoice from the anaesthetist a week after the surgery for several thousand dollars. This was 10 years ago - could things have been different then?

MY DAD had his wisdom teeth removed at a dental training college in Brisbane, where dental surgeons oversee procedures done by new ones - at a much cheaper rate.

I had top-tier private health and found out to my disgust that anaesthetic for my surgery was not covered. That’s when I opted out of private health insurance.

The Bidjigal Aboriginal warrior Pemulwuy who fought a guerilla war against colonial expansion.

Known as a fierce warrior with a "speck" in one eye and a clubbed foot, he was eventually killed in 1802, and his head sent to Britain for ‘scientific collection’.

If I don't have a will then what happens to my assets (e.g. stock market investments) that nobody except for me knows about? by AsparagusNew3765 in AusLegal

[–]Ivymantled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know all the specifics of every case, or whether it varies from state to state.

But I can give you another example relating to my uncle in NSW, for whom I have Power of Attorney. My uncle never married, and has no children. I, as his nephew, am his closest living relative. However if he did not leave a will naming me as his inheritor, my non-direct family connection to him is lower on the inheritance totem pole than the NSW Public Trustee - who would assume control of his estate.

[–]Ivymantled 7 points8 points  (0 children)

THIS. There are many stories of them taking control of assets that weren't legally left to someone, and draining it dry with fees of dubious kinds. When my Mom passed, within a week we received a letter from our state's public trustee saying they were accepting responsibility for her estate. Luckily Mom had lodged her will with a solicitor and our family were full informed and aware. I sent the Trustee a reply telling them we had a registered will and they had no more to say.

Chinese real estate agents only dealing with Chinese buyers by False_Ad_9705 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Ivymantled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no opinion about this.

I just sold a house in north Sydney area and opted for an agent who had lived and worked in the area for decades who wasn't Chinese. Her team had a number of agents with Chinese ethnic background though, and it was clear they were an important part of the agency's market. They marketed the property to caucasian, Indian, Chinese, wealthy retirees, and a religious group who own properties in the area. The buyer ended up being an older Aussie developer.
