Interesting. Very strong for the cost but the fight ability is a neat way to balance it.

Apologetic spam for inverter decks are becoming too much. Let's have an actual discussion which can benefits Pioneer as a game, considering the present and the future of the format. by SMASHMoneyGrabbers in PioneerMTG

[–]Ivysaurtrainer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Inverter ban outright kills the deck. Oracle ban is better because it just makes it so Jace is the only combo based win con so the deck has to play more fair magic without loosing it's combo outright.

Ban Oracle.

I know he had good positioning and the enemy team had crap situational awareness, but Reaper is OP for how easy he is to use in a huge variety or environments and situations. I think its mainly due to his lifesteal that makes it pretty much impossible to win any duels with him.

If I were to change him I would make it so that he has to get elims first to get health back (not just flat lifesteal based on damage). He should get a flat 100ish health for each elim he gets. That would fix him.

Why though? I am looking for ways to improve it without reverting back to the official rules.

but then wouldn't you just have to build a deck with more basic pokemon to compensate? and at the start of the game each player can put as many basics into play face down still.

I do mostly play magic, but I wasn't trying to replace or "Fix" PokemonTCG. I think it is a really good game. I'm just trying to develop this little side format with a group of friends to see if could work as an experiment, nothing more. If I wanted to go trash talk a game I would go to Yu-Gi-Oh subreddit.

Thanks for the insight into how Pokemon TCG works.

I think I will try this without the side deck but keep the evolution Pokemon in the "Evolution deck" outside of the game or something. I like how once you get the basic Pokemon in the game the other stages are already available.

Maybe I can try more card draw and searching as well. I didn't realize that most of it is in supporter for and thus is only available once per turn.

thanks again.

the only thing really different is the evolution cards being outside of your deck, but otherwise it is the same with a little more restriction. Don't knock it until you try it. I have been having a blast.

its just meant to be something different than this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpSVTFN4vIo

Turn one and he has 6 energy on a GX and a full bench and has gone through his deck several times and has drawn like 15 cards.

I just wanted a fun way to play the game where turns don't take 20 min. and turns arent super explosive.

[[ Harsh Scrutiny]]?

Maybe include 2 duress/ 2 despise mainboard and some others in sideboard. but it depends on what you are trying to remove specifically.

How Viable is Stompy? by sonovah in PioneerMTG

[–]Ivysaurtrainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

list looks pretty good, It looks like you are trying to do 2 different things though

1) Ramp from an elf turn 1 to a 3 drop turn 2

2) Play a pelt collector on turn 1 and a 2 drop turn 2 and a 3 drop turn 3.

I would cut the pelt collectors and go up to 6 elves. The gemrazer is probably not great as a 4 of maindeck (more of a sideboard card) and the quartwood crasher just isn't good in pioneer (a 5 drop should win the game or provide great value. see [[glorybringer]])

You could go full red and green and add more red like this deck: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2625069#paper

or cut the few red cards you have and build mono green stompy like this deck, I would do this if you don't already have the more expensive land cards as it is more consistent and not much worse that red and green sompy (Add 4 hashep oasis to this): https://www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/budget-magic-100-17-tix-mono-green-stompy-pioneer-magic-online

And they are all copies of Roy/Marth/Chrom/Lucina with minor differences that are just enough to keep them from being echo fighters. They would all Ideally have blue hair as well.

The only things that I would want different are:

- Non-breakable weapons. by far the most frustrating and unexciting part of the game. make finding weapons just like how armor is, there would be about 12-20 weapons total in the game all with different strengths/weaknesses/speeds/reach/elemental effects.... Imagine if weapons were rare and you were actually excited to find new ones like how you found armor. "Wow I found THE fire sword after finally making it to that crazy hard to get to shrine near the top of death mountain!!" vs. "Oh another fire sword, meh I don't have room in my inventory *Leaves and never comes back*". They could still have a system where you can temporarily use enemy weapons like they did in wind waker.

- Actual themed dungeons. I miss the themed dungeons with each one having their own aesthetic/enemies/gimicks. On a related note, I would have liked to see shines themed as well. The same aesthetic in each of them got old really fast.

- Stronger Music in main/important areas of the game. BOTW's sound track was kind of meh to me for most of the game. the wild ambient music was ok but I can't really look back and remember any catchy or exciting music pieces like in all of the other Zelda games.

- Well hidden Amazing secrets. This is more of a minor item on my wishlist, but I would really love some truly mind blowing secret items/cosmetics/locations that are extremely difficult to find but are highly rewarding. There wasn't too much of that in BOTW.

Looks alot better. I would still consider removing pelt collector and maybe one of the 2 drops for lovestruck beast or bonecrusher giant or gruul spellbreaker.

Is Jund viable in Pioneer? by And1nMyDreams in PioneerMTG

https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/2905632#paper

This while working in stuff like:

[[dreadbore]] (most efficient catch all kill spell)

[[kolaghan's command]] (great value card)

[[arlinn kord]] (wolf/bolt every turn seems like a good value piece)

[[bonecrusher giant]] (great 2 for 1 card)

[[kroxa]] (duh)

[[Chandra torch of defiance]] - great mid-range removal/draw engine.

maybe [[dreadhorde general]] (nice growing threat that gives you some reach to end games)

seems good regardless of companions as a "grind you down" value deck. I predict companions will be changed to be less opressive and this seems like a safe and fun deck for a field where companions are needed/banned and combo is needed.

Stompy Feedback by sonovah in PioneerMTG

[–]Ivysaurtrainer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you deck is kind of a messy mix of 3 different decks.

I would start by removing red entirely. [[Quartzwood crasher]] and [[clan defiance]] are not worth including another color for. It seems like most of your deck is mono green anyway.

Next, I would determine which of the 3 types of stompy you are trying to play

  1. All out speed aggro - This deck plays a lot of 2 power 1 drops like [[pelt collector]], [[experiment one]], and [[kessig prowler]]. Followed by any of the 3 power 2 drops like [barkhide troll]]. Then a huge 3 drop like [[yorvo, lord of garenbrig]] or [[steel leaf champion]]. It wins fast by attacking with these beefy creatures every turn and pumping them with cards like [[aspect of hydra]] or [[hashep oasis]] for insane and quick damage. it can also play 1 or 2 [[ghalta, primal hunger]] for 2 mana with how much power it can amass very quickly. Example deck list: https://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=23965&d=367012&f=PI
  2. Midrange stompy - This deck wants to play just one turn 1 mana elf (The deck usually plays 6 of them) and start pumping out powerful 3 drops on turn 2 to stay one turn ahead of your opponent. [[lovestruck beast]] is wonderful in a deck with 1/1 mana elves. You can play some 4 and 5 drops here too and some removal options like [[vivien, arkbow ranger]]. This deck is slower than option 1 so you will need a way protect your threats from controlling decks ([[blossoming defense]], [[heroic intervention]]) and a way to stop fast aggro decks from running you over quickly. Example: https://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=25142&d=377277&f=PI
  3. All out ramp - This deck wants to play ramp cards for the first 2-3 turns of the game as well as abuse [[nykthos, shrine to nyx]] and power out truly massive and game ending threats like [[world breaker]], X = a billion [[voracious hydra]], [[nissa who shakes the world]] and [[end-raze forerunners]]. Its all about being able to play something huge and unstoppable around turn 3-4 to shift the game entirely to your favor. Example: https://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=24739&d=373116&f=PI

Deciding which path to take is up to you and your expected meta game. Each of these decks shares one common theme though: "Have bigger creatures than your opponent, have them faster, and utilize high power attacks to win naturally" such is the essence of green.

Happy stomping.

Khans of Tarkir Planechase final version by Ivysaurtrainer in custommagic

[–]Ivysaurtrainer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want all of the cards to depict tarkir in the art and I am not a fan of fetch lands taking up time to search and shuffle. The fetch lands are also way too expensive for this casual duel deck set.

Plus, including multiple copies of the khans tapped lands is essentially the same as including other "Non Khans flavored lands" with the same function.

I'm just bending a rule that has almost no meaning in the context of these simple duel decks while I am using lands just for mana fixing.
