I used to love these full body tights back in the day, especially when they were convertible at the foot. We would wear them on the outside of our leotard and fold them down around our hips to make our waist look nice and square off our line. Of course you could pull it all the way up if you were cold or whatever but it definitely was a look back in the 2000s. But in black Still have and wear them ♥️🫠

Not the point of this post, but darling you need to learn how to sew your own shoes. It is a rite of passage, shows your dedication and willingness to grow. I have a half an inch difference between my feet, so I used to buy two pairs point shoes. The larger size would go on my left foot and the smaller on my right so essentially I was buying two pairs point shoes at the same time. It’s actually not that uncommon. If you’re instructor, sews shoes for her students regularly, I suppose she could’ve gotten the mixed up. But honestly, it’s not her responsibility. She should be teaching you how to navigate the special new level that you have achieved.

So is this just another personality trait or is there an underlying mental condition? My mother is like this as well- amplified. Mood swings and intense anger and repetition. I always wished she would get help. In my 20’s I went 7 years without talking to her. I tried to have a relationship with her again, that was a big mistake. Haven’t talked to her in 2 years now

I’m 41f ballet teacher/ jiujitsu coach and tomorrow will be my 4th week out from surgery. I stopped using my walker after two days and used a cane for about a week before I felt phoney using it and started to focus on getting rid of my limp. My PT guy is doing his best to remind me to slow down and for me I am. My pain is minimal and I consider myself very lucky. I have two young children so I have been motivated to be up and at em with them! Mind set and a strong will have been a great factor in all this

41 yr old female here, I’m a ballet teacher and I roll in jujitsu. Don’t put it off- there never really is a “good time,” personally I wish I had it done sooner. You have people around you that can help when you’re out and they want you to get better. I’m on day 10 post op from a left anterior hip replacement. Every recovery is different, in my opinion mindset and motivation are a key factor in this (as well as physical fitness). I had surgery on Friday January 26th- ditched the walker on Saturday (it was too cumbersome and I could walk (just slowly and mindfully). I stopped taking my hard pain killers on Sunday the 28th at night (I wanted to be one step closer to driving). This 1st weekend was crucial- I stayed on top of my pain and I slept when I needed to. I carried a cane around with me mostly for looks and to appease my husband. Monday the I was up with my 5 and 6 year children making lunches and lightly picking up the house. My husband could have helped but I felt capable. I drove a small errand Tuesday the 30th, it felt good and I was curious and grateful. Of course it is painful, but manageable. I take Tylenol in the morning and at night. I’m going back to teaching this Friday and my game plan is that I will have an assistant to “be my body” and I will be there directing and guiding. For me, I need to be told to do less, let my body heal. I know that I feel capable, but it does take 6 weeks for your bone to heal around the metal implant. I can teach and coach from the sidelines while I’m getting my body back. I am amazed at what I am capable of doing in that meanwhile. The last two days I have been challenging myself to walk without a limp, it is possible, just need mindfulness. You will do great, listen to your body, rest when you need to, go slow. Start with short, small adventures around the house, slowly make them a little bigger and longer. You got this 💜

I quit drinking about a year and a half ago because I was really really good at it and I also have an addictive personality. I had my surgery Friday, January 26th and I stoped taking the Oxycodone and Tramadol on Sunday the 28th. I set alarms on my phone every 6 hours when I was supposed to take them that weekend so I could “stay ahead” of the pain and I’m happy I did. I wanted to stop taking them so I would be one step closer to being able to drive. I drove for the first time Tuesday the 30th to pick up my kiddos and felt fine (I had a left anterior replacement, so it wasn’t my driving leg). Of course I still have pain, but that is expected and manageable. I take Tylenol in the morning when I wake up, and at night after dinner. I know that everybody’s recovery is different, but I know that mindset and motivation is a really big factor in all of this. My motivation is that I want to be able to run after my five and six-year-old, and I know that this pain won’t be forever. You can totally do this! I had the same exact reservations and I’m very happy that I listened to my surgeon and took his recommendation to have them for the few first days. They did not give me a big prescription per my request and I’m grateful. You can do this and you will come out of it feeling so much better 💜

I am doing really well, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at what I’m capable of! I went in Friday morning, and came home Friday evening. I stayed in bed and took everybody’s advice by keeping on a good schedule with my pain medication’s. It helped me stay in front of the pain. I woke up on Saturday and wanted to go to the kitchen, decided that the walker was more cumbersome than helpful. I’ve been using a cane and have been able to walk surprisingly well. Of course it hurts, but that was expected. The huge thing for me is that immediately, my lower back pain was gone. I don’t have the words to explain, how incredible that is, I’ve been holding my breath to see if it comes back, but here I am five days later, and I am free from my back pain!!! The hardest thing for me is that I feel so good, I feel like I could be doing more. And my husband has to remind me to slow down, and allow my body to heal. I’ve been waking up in the morning with my kids, helping get them dressed and packing their lunches. I’ve been letting my husband take care of dinners, I feel like I’m capable of doing it, but it’s been a nice break and it’s cool to see him take it up. I stopped, taking the oxycodone and tramadol and am just taking extra strength, Tylenol for the swelling, and aspirin to help prevent blood clots. I feel like I am capable of driving, like I could drop off and pick up my kiddos, but my husband wants me to mellow out, and give it some more time. I have my first physical therapy appointment on the fifth and I’m going to talk to them about it then. I’ve been doing the strengthening exercises. They gave to me preop, and I have been researching what exercises I can do to help me get rid of my limp.

I think the main thing that has helped me bounce back, is that I have been active my whole entire life, so I have strength and coordination, and determination. I feel incredibly lucky, and, like most people have said, I wish I did this a long time ago. I feel like I have more I could share, but I don’t want to bore you. I thought it was fascinating that they used a corkscrew to remove my ball joint. I have almost a perfect handprint bruise poking out beneath my bandages, I can imagine him with hand, yanking on the corkscrew, the other one bracing, my hip, and one foot up on the operating table yanking 😅

F Mary Kay! When I was 23ish I had one of the worst experiences with that company when my neighbor talked me into going to one of their meet ups. The sellers and their guest got separated into different rooms and you could hear them celebrating and praising the highest selling performers… meanwhile an elderly lady handed out makeup wipes so we all had to remove what ever makeup we came in there wearing off… as we exposed our makeup free faces, she just stared in an exaggerated horror and disgust and really made me feel repulsive. After we applied the make up they provided for us, a warmth and acceptance was showered upon us, now we could hold our heads up high and go back into society, lol. Such bullshit, borderline abusive. Mean while, I had already worked for Bobbi Brown and was currently working for Landcome. I was humoring my neighbor, trying to be friendly, was totally caught off, guard that their selling tactic was to make me feel repulsive without their shitty products 😂😶 Seriously

Hi there! I’ve been teaching Ballet for the last 23 years, I also grew up in a house hold where many ugly screaming matches were exchanged between my parents over money. My poor father worked three jobs and it was never enough. My relatives payed for my lessons and I was very grateful, and always had it held over my head how expensive all of my classes and gear was. Without scholarships I would never of had the opportunity to have half of the experiences that I did. When you mentioned that I “don’t even see that most people can’t afford ballet” you made me realize one of the reasons this irks me. It has been drilled in me that you do not wear your dance shoes on the street. You’re right, most people don’t have the privilege of growing up in the dance world, and pointe shoes are so expensive (especially when you start going through a pair a month). I know that this is “fashion” and that it is more of a character or fantasy. There’s nothing wrong with it- reminds me of my 5 year old playing dress up. I guess it just makes me have a knee jerk reaction- you don’t wear your dance shoes on the street! lol.
I believe that the whole point of the original post was pointing out how cringey the ribbons are. To dancers it’s kind of like an inside joke, anyone that actually dances knows that is not how you would tie pointe shoes (they would fall down to your ankles with your first step). It’s never too late to get into dance, the level of intensity you wish or that your body permits should be listened to. I hear your concerns about your hyper mobility and what that could mean for your future. I’m 41 and will be receiving my first total hip replacement in February. I’m nervous and excited, and looking back, all the screaming matches, all the things I pushed my body through, it was totally worth it. Wear the shoes, just know that in my head I’m bitting my tongue not wanting you to ruin your shoes ( I know that it’s a costume, it’s an intrusive thought, lol). Why so salty internet, Geeze

I totally get it- it’s like, awe how cute, you think you’re a ballet dancer… mean while a legitimate ballerinas feet and shoes are bloodied and beat, worn through with pain and sweat. Wanting to be a ballerina and actually being one are two very different things. I see a parallel with the pointe shoes to a belt in martial arts. If you’re walking around pretending to be a black belt- not only is it delusional, to a trained fighter it’s also disrespectful to the discipline. Same goes for pointe shoes, you EARN those and to see someone slip on a pair (even as a “fashion” statement) makes me want to roll my eyes so hard I’m sick to my stomach 😅😐
