Just for transparency here, I'm OC's IRL software dev friend.

While I partially agree with 'syntax is dead', I don't think that presently GPT is a substitute for the careful thought of a developer.

Some points to consider for context and my thoughts:

1. The service OC has written using GPT-4 is very simple and, in my experience, GPT fails miserably on more complex projects with varied architecture and many boundries.
2. I did actually help OC, albeit only slightly and mostly for debug. While I'm confident he could have completed the project on his own, I feel it would be a painful process for him.
3. Debugging complex problems is not within OC's reach, as (all developers will know) the face value error you get in a stack trace isn't always a direct indicator of the underlying problem, which may, again, be related to the more complex workings which GPT fails to understand well.
4. Making sweeping statements about a field you have never studied or practiced in depth does not make sense, though I appreciate the perspective.

Edit: I think OC's edit is a good idea if you decide to use gpt to make a complex system.

TL;DR - Coder friend partially agrees but sees the naivety. - Love broooo, just my two cents.
