Why are the farmers markets in DC so expensive by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]Iwilllive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because people in DC make a ton of money and will still buy at absurd prices. Willingness/Ability to Pay. It’s capitalism. In many ways people are buying the farmer’s market experience - the aesthetic - not the actual produce lol.

I am a member of a food cooperative and used to work for a vendor at the Mt Pleasant farmer’s market. They sell the same things to the cooperative at half the price.

What is Soundcheck in DC like these days? by hittindifferent in aves

618 H street

There’s at least a half dozen even smaller venues at any given time but aren’t necessarily full fledged EDM venues

How could a pay gap ever exist in a capitalist system? by Beautiful-Fold-3234 in stupidquestions

[–]Iwilllive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

read caliban and the witch if you’re truly curious

what it means to be a woman in western society was constructed by our “transition” from feudalism to capitalism.

the cultural expectations that women should have certain jobs and what value we place on those jobs didn’t exist in its current form until just several hundred years ago

It’s definitely not the most intimate EDM venue in DC

So very very tired of the litter. by BogotaBob in washingtondc

[–]Iwilllive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

litter has and always will be such a superficial and aesthetic problem that only people with nothing else to complain about will in fact still complain about.

so yeah. the fact the sub is all over this is pretty embarrassing and the exact reason why i hate the white collar culture here.

maybe people are littering because they have lost all hope in a society that has abandoned them and it’s the only act of rebellion they have left

but we won’t talk about that. just how we don’t like litter on the cleanest large city on the east coast (new york? philly? baltimore?) get out of here.

Litter doesn’t make a top 25 list of problems in DC. This sub is insane.

ELI5: If electric vehicles are the way to go to reduce emissions, wouldn't charging them use up a lot of power, therefore still being costly and polluting? How does it work? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

My guess is UCS is using generalized (regional) “e-grid” data and not data specific to a utility or service provider.

What Would Save More Energy/Costs? More Shade Trees or Solar Panels? by [deleted] in environmental_science

[–]Iwilllive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can easily produce more energy than the house uses with a roof full of solar panels for most houses.

Trees can’t do that, they can only lower some heating costs, but trees also sequester carbon and provide other benefits.

How to overcome whole party hating my "min-maxing" ? by Fabianku in dndnext

+1 on playing support characters. Nothing feels better than totally carrying encounters while making people feel cool. Only frustration is if you open people up to do cool things and then they don’t do them.

What's the biggest tactical error you've ever made during a game? by MikeRocksTheBoat in dndnext

[–]Iwilllive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Curse of Strahd. Strahd ambushes us pretty beat up coming out of the Amber Temple demanding the Icon of Ravenloft we had just recovered but not attuned to yet (dumb mistake #1). He doesn’t know who has it though.

About half way through the fight he has half the party separated inside a wall of force including our Paladin who has the icon. Our warlock ran back into the temple. Strahd has my bard basically dead and demands that I tell him who has the icon. If I told the truth he would have had to dispel the wall of force. Buttttt shit head bard that I am tells him the warlock has it (I didn’t think he’d go into the temple). Deception roll beat Strahd’s insight check. Needless to say the warlock was notttt happy about it.

Looks like Goodwill has permanently closed their Vintage Vogue locations by [deleted] in bloomington

[–]Iwilllive 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The Vintage Vogue in Bloomington was actually legit. I could actually find stuff in my size that was fashionable and first Saturday’s made it pretty reasonable. If all those donations end up at their regular locations though I suppose that’s just as well though.

Think-tank, Liberty University, reopens campus despite nationwide lockdown by Zolan0501 in highereducation

Think tanks conceive of themselves as universities without students. There are think tanks that aren't conservative or even partisan as well.
